Hi guys, I've purchased a new Panigale 959 in Jan 2016 combined with a Monster 1200 R for all around riding. It's been a great combo. For various reasons, I traded the Pani for a Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak. I bought the panniers but I don't tour. Only fair weather day rides. The idea was to accommodate the wifey as a pillion who has enjoyed it but now has an MX-5 to play with. Assuming I get a Panigale V4S, Should I trade the Monster 1200R or the Multi Pikes Peak?
So while you’ve had the Multistrada and aside from the rides out with the wife, which one have you used and enjoyed more, the Multi or the Monster?
That's a very deep question. Truthfully, I've used the Multi slightly more but only because of it's newer and has a few more feature such as heated grips, QS and pillion capabilities. The Multi is worth more but I've spent a king's ransom upgrading the Monster. I'm really on the fence here and thought it may be a good discussion.
If you sell either you’ll regret it. Keep them both and buy the Pani. I’ve got a Pani, a monster and a Multi. All great.
You won’t get anything like what you’ve spent back on the monster if you trade it in and if thats going to peeve you somewhat then trade in the Multi. Sounds like you have a more emotional connection to the Monster to had spent a small fortune upgrading it? I’d say get rid of them all and buy an 1100 Scrambler, get back to what got you into riding a bike for in the first place, not the 200hp, traction control and active suspension trickery
The money to burn option is obviously keep them and add to the collection! Back in the real world where you have to not only buy, but tax and insurance another bike, you have 2 ways of making the decision. Logic or what your heart tells you. Logic - what circumstances would you use your current bikes in? And then which of those circumstances would the Panigale be used instead? Ride out to a bike meet? Going out for a blast alone? Nip into town for a coffee? Weekend away with the Mrs? Commute to work? Fast ride with a group of friends? Long solo journey? Alternatively - take them out of the garage one at a time - close the door and look at the one that’s left - sat there with a space for the Panigale next to it which one do you miss more when it’s gone?
Keep the 1200r. They are a bit special. Only sold mine due to the lack of multi bike insurance policies here, and the desmo service costs. As you will need desmo service regardless, keep the special one. Oval intakes, oversize exhaust etc. Despite not being a ‘Pani’ or ‘R’ race bike, they are a real limited numbers bike that you dont see every day.
That would actually be the Monster 1200R. It's also the one that scares the bejesus out of me. However, I don't want to influence the comments from others as I'm really enjoying their thoughts.
Just had the first service on the Superduke R yesterday, on the way back slid the back end on a third gear corner because the road was damp and I asked too much…..Im sure it would not have happened on the 1250GS. "……..so I made the right choice! ditto, keep the Monster! Only goes as fast as you twist the throttle..
@J biker The lack of multi bike insurance policies is also an issue here in Ontario. Liability is 75% of the premium. There's no reason to have it on every vehicle when it should be on the person's drivers license.

i would keep the 1200r i had a similar dilemma a few years ago with my r and a bmw 1000xr i sold the xr to buy a new bike. After 2 years i sold that to buy another xr
1200r Monster gets my vote, I like to be scared once in a while. Which one excites you the most that’s basically the decision for you. There’s no practical decision with motorcycles
