  1. Hello
My battery has died now , what's the best battery to get, Any links would be great
    Thank you

  2. Yuasa YTX14BS.
    Halfords.
This battery is physically larger than the standard battery but most 1*98 have a slide out tray that can be removed and it fits perfectly.

  3. I’ve got a Yuasa on mine, with Exact cables.

I use an optimate if bike not used for more than a few days and don’t have any issues.

  7. Check so you have the slide out tray before buying the 14bs, my 07 1098s did not. Otherwise it's the yuasa yt12b-bs.

  9. it's that time for me also - although physically the same dimensions, the YTXH14-BS has come up as an option, with a claimed extra 40 amps cranking power. Anyone fitted one of these and actually noticed a difference?

  10. I have a 2007 1098s tricolor and the YTX14b doesn’t fit. I have the removable tray that allows the extra height but the width is the problem. The YT12b OEM battery has a width of 69mm whereas the YTX14b has a width of 87mm so they must have changed the battery tray for models after 2007. Just checked that the YTX14H-bs has the same width of 87mm. I would change to the YTX14b or YTX14H but would need to purchase another battery compartment. You might be lucky but easy to check the width of your battery compartment. Just looked up the parts diagram for all models since 2007 including 1198 and they’re all the same number so don’t know why my early 1098 only has a width of 69mm.

  11. thanks Geoff, but I'm fine with all that! It was just the performance bit I was interested in.

  12. The YTX14BS only has a CCA of 200A whereas the OEM YT12b, physically smaller has a CCA of 210A. So the extra 30A of the YTXH14-BS can only improve starting in my opinion. Another battery which I might consider for my own 1098 is an odyssey battery considered one of the best but not cheap. The problem is normally getting one to fit. They offer an
    ODS-AGM14.
This battery replaces the YTX14b and YTX14H and is a drop in replacement. They come with a 3yr warranty and a CCA of 220A but the main difference the CCA is specified at -40centigrade.
None of this answers your question on feedback from actual users but thought I might inform you for reference.

  13. considering the price, that Odyssey is worth thinking about with a 3 year guarantee, but great shame about the terminal reversal as, as you know, it's all very tight with the 848/1*98 etc. I went ahead with the "std" battery (notes in another thread) but alas, Halfords are slowly "dropping the ball" and i'm going to take my purchase back i think. I can see the majority of the Halfords chain disappearing in 5 to 10 years time.

  14. I’m surprised theyve lasted this long TBH, Chris.

The last few times I've been (for stuff I cannot wait for over the internet) the staff have been college kids who don't give a sh1t if they serve you or not - I’ve decided to use my small local motor factors shop now and consider Halfords an emergency backup.

  15. IMG_0143.png For reference see pic. The terminals are the correct way round it’s just they’re fixed to the terminal at front. Saying that from the diagram it l looks like it has top fixing via M6 bolts. Correction it does say it’s top or front fixing.

  16. For my own information does your battery compartment have a width of 87mm ? I presume you already have a YTX14 fitted ? It would be good to know if I purchase a new battery compartment it will take the odyssey battery. My present compartment definitely won’t.

  17. I have noticed that the smaller automotive factors, well the well organised ones that have a pride in their work let's say, are slowly improving. They might not carry the massive stock that Halfords do, but they are well clued up on the service bits, knickknacks, greases and oils that a lot of us need to get the job done.

  18. further confirmation of my cognitive state  no memory of fitting the higher spec one at all. Anyway, I can answer my own question! It happily lasted just over three years as found the invoice.
