998 Production Numbers

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Franco82, May 16, 2024.

  1. Hi all

Post number 2 from me. Have been sniffing around the net trying to find worldwide production figures on the Ducati 998 of all derivatives, from MP to BP all the way up to the special editions.

Are there any accurate production figures out there for total production numbers for 916/996/998 bikes worldwide or broken down by region at all?

I'd be very curious to know.

    Cheers

  2. Thank you very much, if anybody happens to have their book or a copy to hand, would they mind awfully uploading in photo of the numbers onto this thread. I’ve ordered a copy of the book but delivery isn’t for another month or so, would really like to know.

    thanks

  3. Hi all.

Just to say, I bought the book and thought I’d attach the production number pages for 916/996/998 incase anyone’s interested.

    Cheers

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  4. Thanks!

If you haven't heard of it, https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/ will tell you numbers in UK both on-road and SORN i.e the 998S Mono (02) has 1 OTR and 17 SORN

  5. Thanks to the historicaly lazy way bikes were registered in the 70/80/90s the HowManyLeft data is
not that reliable for looking at anything low volume.

  6. Can obviously provide other figures from
The book if anyone needs them. The book not so easy to come by anymore

  7. I have a 998s mono will be off sorn in 2 weeks. I thought there were only 27 that were sold to uk

  8. I think that's right, yes; often on forums discussing rare vehicles owners put their data together and establish that HML numbers are all over the place.

  9. I went onto Wikipedia this morning to the 998 Page, I noticed no production numbers on there either, so went through all of the pages in the catalogue, extrapolated all of the information, and added it to the Wikipedia entry. So if any of you are interested in 998 only production numbers and how it breaks down, it’s already live on the Wikipedia page, link below. interestingly in the UK, 998 Biposto only, they only ever made 100
In red and 10 in yellow. Interesting. Anyways happy reading.

  13. Absolutely beautiful! Mines in for belts and valve clearances, want it back now!!

  14. I've looked around for those numbers too. It's tricky to find exact figures, but from what I've seen, the Ducati 998 production numbers aren't widely published. Some estimates suggest a few thousand units for each model, but nothing super concrete. Best bet might be to check with Ducati clubs or forums where collectors hang out—they often have the inside scoop.

  15. I’ve already done the legwork for you. Check the Wikipedia page for the 998 and I’ve put all the production numbers for you.

  16. Unless I am mistaken, wiki is only showing 2002 production numbers? So may be missing a bunch (2003 + 2004 FEs and Matrix)?

Haven’t all these numbers already been published in Falloon’s Book?

  17. Those numbers are from the original book, published in 2005, so I’m quite confident in the figures, to quote Clarkson they’re likely as near as makes no difference.

  18. @Franco82

Sure, but on the wiki page you posted a link for, I only see numbers for model year 2002. 998s rolled off the production line until 2004 included.

  19. I agree that’s how it’s written, I believe it captures data beyond 2002, but even so I’d imagine MY03 and MY04 were likely tiny figures.
