This months bike magazine has a small spread about the 999 being the used bike of the year. They recon you can get them for as little as £3500 Yep a fantastic bike and early ones are eligible for classic bike insurance, but £3500? Not anywhere that Ive been looking
they are a very good fast road bike. predictable, tractable and not too intimidating. my S is better than me. until I become better than it ill stick with it. the only thing is tank range and smoothness on longer rides where I miss an i4. is this spread on their site or mag
Not sure about the site, but its just two pages in the magazine. I'd love a 999, especially for £3500. Red please
There's been plenty of early ones for that sort of cash, also an S that went for £3k. I can't see them going much lower though.
It had been cat D, but was pretty spotless with full history and extras etc, I think it went for 2.9k. A lot of bike for the cash.
They've been cheap since 2007 when the 1098 came out. I bought my 2005 bip in October that year for well below half rrp with 4000 miles and termi/posh clutch/DPseat/carbon bits. Best road Ducati superbike made imho. Comfortable 2up, great handing and a brilliant motor. I didn't need a 3rd Duke but couldn't resist it. 20,000 trouble free miles and £1k on bling later I still love it and have no urge to change it up.
I saw a lovely 999R in the dealers about 3 months back and wanted to buy it.Silly really as I wouldn't be able to ride it very far.It had been sold and was waiting for collection. If it had been available I would have bought it on the spot as it was so nice. Mind you I do that with lots of bikes,I think I am a lost cause.Luckily Mrs Mervyn is very tolerant
I'm still very happy with mine 7 years on. Great motor, use of which is limited by plod, radars, limits, traffic etc (so not much point having more), great handling - exceeds my risk tolerance level. The braking is also excellent, but it is true that the latest brakes are in a different league. Has no gizmos, (traction control, launch control, ABS etc) but as I've never had them, I don't miss them. Reasonably comfortable - in the sportsbike idiom. Good on fuel. I think mine makes a good noise with the stock exhaust (which is fortunately black), certainly when you compare it to a stock Mutley. Never felt the need for a Termi. 25'000 miles and it hasn't given me any major grief.
I get itchy feet now and again, but then I just happen to nip in to the garage for something and pinch some sense in to myself. Even by todays standards its very capable, build quality is up there. And it cost me £160 to insure fully comp! I'll not tell you how much I was quoted for an RSV4 not so long back
Stonking bike, even with the 848, I still oogle them. That design of the 749 / 999 is years ahead. All the andles are triuangles on the bike. If you look at the clock, tank, corners, clock lights etc. Stunning desing, work of art really. AND........why would you buy the likes of a 2002 SP1 for 4k stg when you could have a 999. The 999 is Ducati'smost succesful WSBK if I remember correctly (?).
same here. I looked at the rsv4 the other week. ive looked a 1098r. and ive walked away because I stare at them, sit on them and am underwhelmed ultimately and struggle to think how they can scratch better than mine which is better than me. mine is well sorted and on the twisties is just about right power wise. but mine is BST'd up and light. like you too i do think the 999 is iconic looks wise. the only thing is long distance range is poor, but then again its no good on dirt tracks either lol
I made a very cheeky offer of £3.5k (might have been £3k) for a very early strada mono with less than 2k miles a couple of years ago. I wasn't fussed either way as I was only browsing the dreaded 'Bay but I noticed the bike had been for sale for a while. A week later the guy called me back and excepted the offer. Bargains are always out there if you look for long enough, though not for early, low mileage F4's it would seem!
Sold my S a couple of months back to a good friend. Only 5k from new. It sat in my garage just looking gorgeous since the purchase of my 848 evo. My friend offered me 4.5k for it so I let him take it away. Every time I see it I wonder if I did the right thing
This is a clean thing Ducati 999S Mono | eBay Some may scream its 1098 money.. May be but would be scruffy 1098 money!! lol
It certainly looks gorgeous... Intriguing mirrors, what are they? Were they effective in showing you more than your own elbows?
