Hello, hello The Ducati 999 comes with its own set of clichés and expectations. But is there any truth to them or do they just disappear into thin air when you look more closely? Let’s find out and tell me what you think:
I don't have time to watch a vid, but my expectations of the 999 were a very fast, well handling vee twin, expensive to maintain and that's exactly what I got.
I researched somewhat before laying the money down so knew the mirrors were shite. I did find the riding position more comfortable than I expected, but wasn't too surprised, because I found my Jota comfortable though I never heard of anyone else thinking so.
I haven't yet ridden any Ducati superbike that had useful mirrors. First you see your arms and when you accelerate everything gets so shaky from the vibrations you can't even see those anymore. At least the 999's have integrated indicators and channel airflow
Indeed. The right one on my 900SSie flops about - and I'm waiting for a pair with integrated flashers from Moto-Science! I'm definitely sold on the type.
Ducati mirrors are just there to check the cool crash helmet that you should be wearing when riding the bike. Obviously no other purpose. Italian thinking.
Mine is looking hot beside me i don't care what people think i love it it's sexy. I've had it a few weeks not even started it
Man, I love that R I just wish they hadn't gone for a red frame and black wheels on it. One of the reasons I got the 2003 standard version is that they didn't do this.
I've said many times before that I've wanted a 999 since they came out as I far prefer the design to the whole 748/916 style range. I never thought I'd own one, and then whilst rebuilding the project one I found I thought that at my age it would be too quick and too uncomfortable. I thought I'd get it back on the road, ride it a few times then sell it on happy that I'd had the experience. However, I immediately found it more comfortable than my 1000SS/SL Mongral, and almost as comfy as my M1000 because it's physically such a big bike. It's also easy to ride pottering around if you want, I do a lot of that. I don't know how long I'll be able to ride it, old sports injuries etc are catching up with me, but I'll keep it as long as I can. And as far as I'm concerned the more people who discover them and rave about them the better. Relatively speaking there is a limited supply of them out there, and I'd like them to be desirable.
I find it remarkable how "affordable" they are considering what they offer. I could imagine they will rise in value later, but for now I'm just enjoying it
I've watched it now. Enjoyable vid. Nice, understated humour. I was thinking earlier the 999 may actually be my dream bike.
I bought my 999 last year having never owned or ridden a Ducati so it was a voyage of discovery for me. I've always been drawn to the 999/749 shape more so than the old 916 and newer 1098 etc. Luckily I found a really good 2005 MK2 999 which has been kept in really nice condition despite the limited history but had a recent belt change and little use over the past 5 years. My expectations Vs reality is the relative ease I found in servicing and fairing removal, what a brilliant piece of engineering, I could sit in the garage and just look at it! Riding is a real pleasure, feels like it builds into a crescendo of noise and speed, the only downside I found was how slippery the standard seat was so changing for a cover was one of the best moves I made, absolutely love the bike though, looking forward to a full season of riding on it.
