Managed to spend the morning in the garage, erected some racking and started to populate them with the project bike bits. Abit more sorting and I should have room to move the engines around and prep for painting.
So a new bike has arrived in the garage, 1995 916sp. Managed to get it at a decent price as it is a cat D(cosmetic damage to left side, owner had photos of damage), only other bad points are the mirrors not being black, original discs not present and a repair on the nose cone interior. The pros however, lots of spares! ms carbon airbox and tubes, additional carbon and standard tail, original steering damper, stock exhaust, original stand and original three spoke wheel! There is also a 5 character personal plate that ends in duc. Bike currently has carbon front and rear huggers, ohlins steering damper, 5 spoke marchesinis( I’m not sure if they are the light weight ones) and a jhp titanium system, receipts indicate a jhp slipper aswell. lots of history indicating valve checks/belts etc and bling bits. Thanks to @nelly and a local dealer, the sp designation was confirmed, clocks are showing just under 19k. Minimal plans for the bike, belts, oil filters mot etc, will give the bike a good deep clean and fit the ms airbox and tubes and maybe the stock wheels, I have purchased the correct carbon chain guard and will look to source mirrors and a new nose cone. Anyway pictures
Nice. If my cloudy memory serves me well, 916SP, despite being 916cc, was claimed to be slightly more powerful than 996cc 916SPS? You need to dump those reservoir tops!
Definitely, they are hideous! Im looking forward to experiencing the acceleration fully, from the little test ride on a private road it seemed to have some poke!
Just popped in the garage to test fit some adapters I got from @Ivor, cheers mate well chuffed with them! I also sourced some black Brembo callipers from a ktm( looks to be the same callipers that are used in the 749/999r just with different finish, they look great on the shows forks but with the addition of some carbon brake cooling ducts. May just be the best looking 749 showas going……
Got a lot done today but hit a blocker when I wanted to turn the bike over, one of the inspection cover bolts is seized and rounded so couldn’t get it off, tried to get it out by tapping in a torx bit in but no luck. Decided that the dark will be the base bike for the radical track bike build now, Will go for a pierobon x80 look me thinks.
Had abit of a talking to myself today, I’m extremely indecisive (most who have followed the thread will already know), I needed to define the goals for the builds and stick to them. I’ve always wanted the radical build to be something special, something I will never want to sell, so I’m moving back to the original plan for the radical built on the 749s base bike. I will look to finish the dark with the 749r fairings, tank, ti exhaust etc, been faffing around abit too much….. Anyway…. a little update, I had another seat spare with a nice cover so that will make it onto the dark, had some nice carbon seat side thingymabobs from @deaks and they look lovely on the bike, managed to get some ima triple clamps for a decent price, the will only fit the s frame so they will be for the radical.
Front wheel and hugger sorted on the dark, stainless bolts in and torqued up, 749r hugger on, new headstock bearings fitted to the radical, the lovely ima triples and DP carbon steering damper dropped in like a treat. Just need to source a new damper clamp as the triple side has a split. need to source some forks now!
Spent a good few hours in the garage this morning, optimised the layout to accommodate the new addition. Very tempered to start the Cagiva restoration as it low hanging fruit, but the dark is priority. Need to sort through all the boxes, paint the left side and rear walls, some led lighting is needed also for the winter tinkering.
I don't know about that. There's a few shelves that could be added to the display frame for some more toys too!
Tell me about it... my garage is even smaller & I seem to spend most of me time moving stuff about so I can take stuff of the Raptor and fill up even more of the space. It's like a never ending real life game of Tetris. Perhaps a new brighter bulb should be first on the list...
Yes! I have so many spares in boxes, my fault for having three projects on the go. Hopefully get the lighting sorted next month.
Cleaned the Cagiva, and started to draw up a list of parts that need replacing, bottom yoke is the key one as one of the stops is broken. Everything else looks to be a cosmetic job. The switch gears are abit worse for wear, so I’m tempted to to replace with some rebelmoto button pods.
