Potential Accident Waiting To Happen !

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Edward Hitler, Aug 26, 2013.

  1. Ladies & Gentlemen

I need some advice regarding my 2012 Multi S Sport although this will potentially affect all 1200 Multistrada.

I can't go into detail at this moment but I will say as much as this, on Friday gone (23rd Aug) I set out on a journey to visit a friend, the bike developed a problem that could have caused a serious or potentially fatal accident.

My question is this, do I take it up with my supplying dealer, directly with Ducati and / or get legal representation.

Please only serious comments, as soon as I start the ball rolling I will share with the site.

    Regards

    Stu

  3. You sound not best pleased. Fairly serious fault potentially causing loss of life or limb to you or others?

Get a brief, a good one.

  4. You can't just leave it there ? Share it man...share it

  5. Why would you need legal representation without having at least discussed it with the dealer or Ducati. How they react would dictate your next steps surely? There would have had to have been either negligence, or Ducati have prior knowledge of the issue for cases to succeed through the courts.

Getting a puncture on the motorway at 70mph could have caused a serious or potentially fatal accident. The courts would be overloaded!

  6. Should we ground our Multistradas ?

  7. my bikes in at snells Thursday, would they know of your potential problem???? at work we report all "near miss incidents" to prevent an accident, you haven't said what the issue is, however if you later heard that someone had been misfortunate enough to have the same issue how would you feel for not elaborating this issue? pm me if possible

  8. Vent it on here. If its that serious we should all know asap. JB

  9. If it is the situation that you have identified a potentially serious problem which may affect all Multistrada 1200 which could cause a serious or fatal accident I can only assume that your unwillingness to elaborate is that you may be of the opinion that publicizing the problem could prejudice any claim made by you against Ducati .

If the problem you found is a manufacturing one that is it did not occur due to you or persons known to you removing or modifying components on the bike then any claim brought against the manufacturer or his servants is valid and will be heard regardless of what you say on this Forum.

Stu's all right Jack as long as he gets sorted. Nice one Stu

  10. I suggest waiting this out until the facts emerge . If we all went by what the internet said then our headaches would all be brain tumors.

  11. If you read my original post correctly I stated that as soon as I started the ball rolling I would inform the collective. I have emailed and had reply from my supplying dealer so here is what happened.

Steering jammed in the straight ahead position whilst riding southbound on the M1, originally thought it was a flat tyre but further investigation revealed the round silver steering lock boss which is screwed onto the underside of the top yoke had become loose, this had started to contact and wear away at the "V" shaped alloy component that the steering lock springs are attached to, it eventually dropped into the "V" locking the steering. I will try and add some pictures.

Can't add images at the moment, but as soon as I can I will upload.

  12. Could be he's a shit rider.

  13. On a serious issue like this then don't you think comments like that should be left at the kiddies table !
You get yourself a happy meal and we will chat about important things here.

  16. I'm voting for "should have been threadlocked but was missed during PDI"

  17. It was a serious comment.

There are so many variables that COULD cause an injury or God forbid, a death, including the rider and his abilities. And neither you or I know the answer to that.

So why don't you wind your neck in, there's a good chap?

  18. Uh oh handbags !

Should it have been thread locked, in my opinion yes, is it a missed operation, I don't know.

In my opinion it's a poor design, but I've only worked in the Automotive industry for over 25 years in Quality and Engineering so what do I know.

Just check yours and ride safe

  19. If you are so articulate now why not make your first comment so and write silly comments like that. Look at your comment and tell me that was well put and thought out.
    Bit late to backpedal mate.
