Repairing Marchesini Forged Wheels

  1. UPDATE!!!
    Knowledge for everyone else…turns out the kid removing the tyre took it off from the wrong side (it is a single sided wheel) and the face side has the beading which makes the rim much stronger. MAKE SURE YOU ALL ASK FOR TYRES TO BE REMOVED AND FITTED TO THE FACE SIDE in the future. Don’t want this happening to anyone else. They are at least admitting liability now and completely covering the costs.

    Hi all,
    Had Protyre provide me a nice dent in the rim during fitment of new tyres. Flagged this with them before I took them away. Really chuffing annoyed. Question is…can it be fixed through a normal alloy repair centre? My thinking is no because of the materials / manufacturing process and straightening the rim is causing the material to weaken. Asked them to replace the wheel ideally.

  4. You’ll love this. Their response was ‘it was like it when you brought it in’ followed by ‘hit a pothole mate’. Absolutely livid! they are contacting a repair centre in the morning, but I want a replacement. My safety is paramount

  5. My predicament is I’m off to Germany next week so do I get it repaired so I can at least go next week or just not touch the wheel and wait for the customer service to get back in touch?? Argh!

  7. Naming the centre makes no difference - it’s the attitude of the kids doing the job. They don’t know, and they don’t care. I wouldn’t have been so annoyed if they came over and said, look, we messed up but we are working on it. Instead I got ‘it’s your fault’ straight away.
    Just trying to ascertain what is best course of action here. Repair or persue the replacement route…

  8. I would wait until tomorrow at 10.30am, and then call them, and insist on speaking to the manager. If they can't/ won't give you the required guarantees, I would firmly demand the contact at H.O. and call them.
     
  9. Replacement. Poor show from the tyre fitting place. Do we really have to take pictures of an undamaged wheel in their parking area before they accept that ignorant brute force and big tyre levers is not the way with motorcycle tyres. (Runflat car tyres maybe)
     
  10. Already spoken to manager, and even he said it looked like a pothole! Total bollocks. Funny how the 2 marks line up with the clamp on the removal machine eh!? Said I would call back at 10am for them to give me answers and already emailed the customer service to give all details and said I want a new wheel. See what they say tomorrow. Just trying to get some research done before then.

  11. It will to those of us who can avoid suffering the same fate as you have by taking our business elsewhere.

    Has the manager explained how a pothole has only done one side of the rim (assuming that to be the case); or how the paint damage is at either end of the dent, but not in the middle of the dent where any contact with the edge of the pothole would have occurred?

  12. I have never seen pothole damage to a m/c wheel that shattered the paint off at the stress points. Their get-out may be almost plausible on a car wheel, but on a bike? No way.

  14. I’m shaking my head in dis-believment at it all. I’ve already said to the manager what you have all said and pointed out. That’s why I got a tape measure and measured the width of the clamp against the marks on my wheel! If the shoe fits….it was just the total lack of ownership on this which really pissed me off the most.

    i Agree with you grumpy golfer….will wait to hear what they say before naming the centre as I don’t want to potentially impact any decision they have, even though to us it is clear-cut that it should be a replacement.

  19. The usual difference between the manager and the tyre fitters is that the manager knows how to fit tyres AND put paper in the invoice printer. Go higher.
