I've come across a 1995 elefant AC model with stupid low kms. Snapped rear cylinder head bolts, been standing since 1998. I'm super tempted. Anyone have any experience with these models? Any weak points to look out for? I do know it isn't the IE model so is slightly down on power.
Is it the one running on twin mikuni BDST carbs? Great bike once a few/several easily fixable things sorted. However replacing the studs can turn into a nightmare depending on how solid they are in the crankcases. Deffo an engine out job. Swinging arm spindle can seize in the mountings also. It’s one of those really, take a chance and you could wind up with a great bike to ride.
Also, forgot to say. Any engine parts all ducati so no problem there, some cycle parts also ducati. The big downer is the specialist plastics, dash board etc. unobtainium except for the used market. Germany breaks a few bikes but knows how to charge for the parts. Is it a lucky strike paint scheme? There the fastest.
The stainless steel studs they used on the earlier engines were prone to breaking in service, usually the front ones though. For the work involved best to replace all 8 studs with the latest black carbon steel ones whilst your in there.
