Think we may have broken the dog today…..very tired and ‘naughty’ on the way back! 8.5 miles of costal walk to lands end and back on what I can only describe as tough and often dangerous cliff edge paths….steep declines and in lies with more steps than I imagined (he’s only 7m so we avoid steps if poss!) think I was more terrified than the dog! Spent half the time as nervous-parent worrying about him falling from the edge!
Same for us, we’ve had Ridgebacks for 25 years and this is the first time any have had ticks on them. Maybe it’s the cool wet weather that has allowed them to do so well this year.
Yeah. That’s what the Vet said. It’s apparently always pretty bad down here anyway, but this year is exceptional.
Good looking cocker (and im biased cos brown ones are my fave) but hes built well. I see a lot of skinny/tiny ones these days which i suspect is down to mass breeding (dont know if thats just me). He also has his tail intact which EVERY cocker should have otherwise theres no point in having one
Tbh I can see why they dock the very end if truly working. He goes into the occasional bush and the shit that comes out with him…never mind the risk of breaking it thru excessive wagging! He’s becoming a big lad. Nearly 8m now, as big as most male adults already and twice the size of many females. Pushing 14kg too. His siblings all seem same, his mother was a little larger for a female and the pic we saw of the father was larger male. We regularly get comments about how shiny his coat is: the raw food diet suits him! Not a swimmer yet but now heads straight into water
To be honest youre better off him not swimming in the sea, every time mine do they empty their guts on the beach afterwards which can be quite embarrassing (and revolting). Rivers no problem at all, sea water seems to really upset them.
Iggy is quite petite and has a docked tail. In mitigation, the red/golden bloodline tends to produce slimmer and smaller dogs, but he’s absolutely packed with muscle and as strong as an ox, to such an extent at the year before last’s health check the vet’s assistant had to make sure the scales were properly calibrated as she couldn’t believe he was near the top of the breed weight range despite his smallish size. Finally, his tail was legally docked due to him being bred to work.
Same as my Norma although shes so small (and ginger) i think she has some Cav in her. She was the runt of the litter though and i thought that was cute at the time, little did i know what an absolute princess/pain in the arse she'd become ha (who of course i love very much).
They’ve probably all got something else apart from spaniel in the bloodline because in the past function was much more important than form in breeds that were essentially used as tools. I’m pretty sure Iggy has some whippet, Saluki or Italian greyhound (which, coincidentally, are known as “Iggies”) in his ancestry. I can see it even more strongly expressed in his sister, the golden dog in the photo below.
Unfortunately not. They both belong to the breeder, who also has Iggy’s mum (Nora) as well as Iggy’s sister (Hilda). She is from the same father and mother, but one litter later than Iggy. The chocolate one (Figs) is unrelated to any of them and despite the size difference is only 2 weeks younger than Hilda.
Always makes me laugh when i watch Mathewsons/Bangers and Cash, theyve always got a couple of lovely chocolate brown spanners raoming around the place
