Hi all. I’ve done a brief search as I’m positive that this would’ve been asked plenty of times previously, but can’t seem to find the answer… the temp gauge fascia on my 748 is cracked, which i seem to recall during my first period of owning Ducati’s 15-20 years ago, is a fairly common thing… I’ve seen ‘fix kits’ available on eBay to buy for about £40, but realistically, how easy are they to fix using these kits? Or am I better off trying to source a 2nd hand non-cracked part?? cheers, mark
There was a post on this forum some years back which covered this topic in detail: I Renovated A Ducati 748 Temp Gauge... Discussion in 'Builds & Projects' started by Dinozoiks, Sep 10, 2020. I also believe you can do an exchange unit with a company in Italy (of course)...will try and recall the name... My 748 temp gauge is also cracked but I've more pressing things to correct first...
I read a post on this forum showing how to make a domed lens. A disk of perspex was placed on a mug and put in the oven. As it softens it sinks creating the dome. Once it's sunk enough take the mug out of the oven.
A search on this Forum will bring up many threads on changing bezels on 748/9** instruments over the last 10 years. Removing the original bezel sometimes takes patience and skill to remove without damaging the main instrument body, it certainly isn't easy. https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/i-renovated-a-ducati-748-temp-gauge.81324/page-2
My temp bezel was held on with 6 tiny dots of glue. I removed it by gently prizing with the blade of a knife constantly working round it. The broken glass/plastic lens was bonded to the bezel. I gently smashed it out then trimmed the inside of the bezel using a dremel Then glued a 2" domed watch glass on the guage and glued the bezel back on top £5 in total
