Hi everyone I just got my 2012 ducati 848 evo SE, and the sprockets and chain is ready to be changed Was hoping someone in here has the time and knowlage to help me abit. (Sorry for the bad english, im from Norway) Where i live the roads are small with alot of curves, its like a huge track! What sprocked size should i go for and what size chain? For me the speed is not important, i like it to pull and be playful. Thanks for taking the time to read this Have a nice day Michel
I suggest you invest in a Rental QD sprocket hub - although it makes first time change more expensive, any subsequent sprocket changes will be easier and cheaper. Not sure what size you need - do you know the standard front and rear gearing?
Hello mate, Thanks for taking the time I have 15-39 now i think. Yeah i read about the hub, but for now i will just change the fron, rear sprocket and the chain
The long held advice for gearing on track is to drop one tooth off the front and go two up on the back. For road use I would go two or three up on the rear and leave the front standard. This link and gear calculator will help you. https://www.biketorqueracing.co.uk/...20-conversion-with-carrier/05183402-8.htm#eq1
Thank you so much! Thats very helpful! Would you recommend me to go 520 or just leav it at 525 sir? Thanks
Benefits of 520 is less rotational mass. But it wears out quicker. If track use is go 520. Road I’d chose appropriate to the mileage I do. Interestingly the Panigale v2 has a 520 chain as standard.
I have run 520 on a number of bikes (748, 916SPS, 749R and M1100S) - never had any problems. As I don't do big miles longevity is not an issue.
Ok thanks just, i just made an order, 15 teeth front 42 rear and 520. Again thanks for taking the time to help Michel
I would go to either a 15/41 (or 42) rear, or I would drop to 14/39. the Renthal hub is a good shout, if you can get one, they seem to be permanently on backorder. if you want to go to non standard sprocket sizes, 520 will be your best bet, as that will give you the most range of sizes. 525 will likely only give you stock sizes or thereabouts. the reason I’ve suggested going 15/42 is because the smaller the front sprocket the higher the chain where, so this would give you better longevity, however just check how bigger sprocket you can fit on the rear without swingarm clearance issues, you may end up having to go 14/40-41 if you want shorter gearing. I have to say the 848 benefits hugely from shorter gearing, it’s so over-geared it chugs in 6th at anything less than 100mph. I had 14/39 with OEM sprockets but wish it was shorter again as it helps you stay off the clutch in low speed stuff for sure
Just an update since i told you guys i would give you one The 14-40 520 kit was perfect.. Looks good with the gold chain aswell. Thanks for all your help
