Nerdy Questions About Bike Covers

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by yev, Jun 21, 2024.

  1. I just took my bike for a ride, rolled it back in after ride and realised that all my bikes are really dusty . So I gave them a quick wash and decided to pull out covers I have but never used. so here are the questions.
Did 996R come with specific cover when new? I just have one with Ducati written on the side but no reference to 996r ( 999r,1098r and 1198r all got references)
Also can’t find cover for senna . Did they come with covers when new? Or did they not. Did I just loose mine?
    Done quick google but inconclusive.

also : did yam ever done an official cover for early R1? Would not mind tracking one down if they did .

  2. The 996R came with a specific cover but like all the older ones, they were shit. Just fell apart over time and weren’t designed to last for more than 10 times tops cover and removal.
The best option for the Tamburini bikes was made about 20 kms outside Bologna and had “ears” for the side mirrors. Not cheap and very hard to find. Probs looking at near £300 when you find one.

  3. Yeh, here is the one I’ve got. Doubt this one is hard to find. It’s proper Ducati one thou, I even have original bag for a cover! IMG_3524.jpeg

  4. Nice one. That looks like the proper cover. Good to see one still intact. :upyeah:

  5. So you recon this is original one which would have come with 996R?

  6. Looks like it from a distance. I’m after one for mine if you find a 2nd one.

  7. Have a look on the 996R thread. I’m sure Alex996R posted a photo of one he had

  8. Nah, don’t have second one. Here is bag from it. No reference at all to 996R but the box ticked 916/748

  12. Thanks. Look like that the one. any ideas on senna 1? Must have come with the cover also. I can’t find it!

  13. Sorry, can’t help with that and not sure they came with a specific cover, others should be able to confirm. I might know where there is one of those good ones I was on about before.

  14. To be clear, the proper cover, as included from Ducati when new, looks like this one here below. Not like the exact one pictured on the bag or the one posted by yev.

Now, that said, exceptions could be out there depending on the destination market and when the bike was assembled. There is a variance in the dealer guide booklet included, some got a 2000 version like my #31 but my #81 got the 2001 print.

My #31's cover has never been out of its bag and as bettes mentioned, they are stupid fragile and seem to self-decompose. They are made of paper and meant more as a dust cover for crate shipping than anything else. Known to scratch the paint too. A rodents fart would probably put a hole in one.

The 2nd image is 100% proof, #390 and never removed from the crate. picture was taken when opened before even lifting the cover up:
