hi guys, my 2016 1200s dvt has only done 8k but the chain looks original and abit old and rusty! im going to swap it out and do the sprocket change of 15 42 and I believe I'll need a 110 link chain as opposed to 108, getting to my question though!!! is it worth swapping the sprocket out to the quick change sprocket carrier with separate sprocket or just keep it as it is? also where would be best place to find a 42 rear sprocket as most places im finding offer the 14 40 sprocket route!!
42T rear akin to your OEM sprocket is made by Esjot in Germany, you just need to find an importer for them in the UK. JT sprockets do a separate sprocket carrier and QR sprocket but they only offer a 40T option, I couldn’t find a 42T option that fits a QR sprocket carrier when looking recently so went for the Esjot one. Although the sprocket carrier and QR sprocket is more expensive now future changes will be much much cheaper, it all depends how long you’ll keep the bike for I guess, oh, and the aesthetics you desire.
Went for 14/40 on my 1260 with JT carrier. This was a couple of years ago as I couldn't find a 42 rear sprocket to match at the time. From what I'm lead to believe AFAM do a 42T that will fit the carrier. Suggest that you speak to an AFAM stockist to confirm this. The challenge is finding a stockist that either has, or can source you, that elusive 42T 530 sprocket...
Converting to a 525 (instead of the OE 530) gives you a wider choice of sprocket sizes. As you are looking at changing chain and sprockets together, now is the time to look. https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/14f-40r-vs-15f-43r-sprockets.96150/#post-2081849. Andy
cheers for the replies guys, yep im definitely struggling to find a 15 42 set, ducatimondo don't have any in stock at moment and the rear sprocket carrier conversion I can't find any 42 rear rear sprockets to fit so no point going down that route! im tempted to just get a new chain and a 14t sprocket but read a lot of comments it wears chain slider and chain out quicker? ideally I'd like to buy a 530 supersprox in black size 42T, but can't find any anywhere!
Just this past week I was looking for a black 525 Supersprox Stealth 42T but couldn’t find one in the UK. I ended up contacting Supersprox [email protected] and was emailed by their factory in Poland who advised me I can buy directly from. They had the sprocket in stock, so it’s now on its way to me.
I have gone with a 525 RK ZXW chain for my SF848, it has a stated tensile strength of 46.4Kn and they say is suitable for sports bikes up to 1300cc. I believe the tensile strength of the Regina 530 chain fitted as standard to the 1200S DVT is 43Kn.
As long as you buy the right 525 chain, absolutely. For example my Multi V4S has a 525 chain and that’s putting out 170bhp* and 125Nm torque. * I know those are the figures at the crank not the drive before anyone pipes up.
thanks guys, im gonna look at doing this route then, do you have a link to 525 front 15T sprocket to fit my 1200 multistrada, chain I can sort no probs and I think ive already found a 525 42 supersprox sprocket!
JT make a 15T front, fairly sure you can get it in 525 or 530 pitch, fairly sure JTF741 is the 525 pitch and 741.15 is the 15 T variant https://www.jtsprockets.com/catalogue most dealers stock JT products. You’ll need a 110 link chain, eg DID ZVMX2 525 in plain steel or gold link plates, plenty of other makes are available but again pretty much every dealer should stock them.
I bought this from Motos Canosport in Spain, they will post to you.or you can try Carpimoto in Italy. Also bought an Afam chain and a 14 tooth front sprocket. + 2 links in the chain. Personally I preferred to stay with the 530 pitch thinking the stronger the better. The bike is definitely easier to ride at 30mph with the 42 sprocket. I’m very pleased with the setup. Pic below gives you the part number.
Worth noting that the JT/Renthal/Afam sprockets & carriers are all compatible - gives you a bigger choice and availability, whether 530 or 525. I went for a JT 15T front sprocket (JTF743RM), JT carrier (JTA760B) and Renthal 41T alloy rear sprocket (462-530-41P-HA).
hi mate just ordered a 42 525 supersprox and did zvmx 525 chain but struggling to find the right front sprocket in 525 size, do you have a link to what you bought?
I got my front sprocket from Supersprox. It’s a 14T. According to the invoice it’s a Counter Shaft Sprocket. Model number CST-740:14.2
