I can't seem to find solid info on this, are the OEM alloy wheels cast or forged? 50122532AA as an example. From my understanding, it's either the ally cast wheels or mach forged when it comes to factory multi lineup.
If I have read the V4 tech specs pages correctly, only the Pikes Peak and RS wheels are forged, all the other models (excluding wire wheels) are cast. IIRC, only the 1200 Pikes Peak and 1260 Pikes Peak had forged wheels as standard. As an aside, the early cast wheels were never described as ‘lightweight’ (probably because they weren’t) but the current V4 forged wheels are. Don’t know what the weight difference is though. Andy
With todays roads , carbon would be no go , and I had the forged wheels on the 1300 gs , managed to dink the front . Its the luck of the draw . Mate had the carbon on his 1000 xr , cracked both. The forged or cast are best for repairs as had both done at Motoliner . I get the un sprung mass etc as its a better set up , but for where I ride not a choice.
I had a set of Dymag forged aluminum on an XR and they made a very noticeable difference in handling. I can't find anybody that sells a set of forged wheels for the current V4S 19/17 combo. I was in contact with Dymag to see if they would be interested and they were with an initial order of 30 sets which I was contemplating until they mentioned that the front design wouldn't match the rear. That didn't sound interesting so I passed. You would think someone would offer them for this bike since there are so many on the road now. Our California roads are strewn with potholes and the like and the stock cast wheels dent pretty easily. Any idea who else I might contact? Marc
Agreed, I'm going Oz Gass for my MTS 1260, maybe see if they fit the V4 @MarcParnes I made this thread due to a debate and I needed it cleared up
