749r ohlins shock help

  1. eBay strikes again!! I'm soon to purchase a 749r ohlins shock. On further googling seem the 749r shock is most different to all other shocks. Plan to fit it to my 749s can anyone shed any light on the matter. I don't think it's gunna be a straight swap :(

  2. They are designed to work in conjunction with the 749R flat (linear) ratio rocker.

all the other 749's & 999's had a progressive rocker and shock set-up.

It will fit but you will have to have it set up for a standard rocker, or buy a 749R rocker.

  3. +1 to that. Just buy a proper shock for it like a Wilbers......got one on my 999, and its the dogs bollocks........

  4. I guess I have to change the linkage bar too then??

  5. Not if you buy a shock designed for your bike....

  6. You have to ask yourself waht are you trying to achieve?

  7. This isn't too much of a hard modification.I was speaking to a chap at a track day once who'd spent alot of money on 749 making it as track focused as possible, he said his ohlins shock was the best thing to do by far. I've bought the shock for £200. So I'm quids in really.

  8. if you are looking to put your bike on the track then a 749R shock tie rod and rocker are a good step forward......and as you say for veryy little money relatively speaking..........although i dont think you can get the rocker and tie rod new now.....

the 749r shock is internally very different to other more std ohlins for a start its stroke is a lot shorter...relative to the rocker ratio.......
if you are looking to continue to ride on the road as well as track then the rocker ratio is somewhat too linear and will be kicking you out of the seat.......

  9. No road riding at all for me. Cheers for the info . Will have to source the other parts now, maybe the chap selling the shock has the linkage too.

  10. i remember when i had my 999r i bought the parts over the counter..................less than £80

there is a guy on ducati.ms dennie i think his name is, he was selling a lot of 749r stuff recently including said parts..........

  11. Where abouts is the part number on this unit ?? The chap is now saying he can't tell me it but it came off a 749r. :(

  12. there you go

  13. That's a Lovley parts list, but I ment where about is the shock part number (ie DU----) on the shock itself?

  14. it gives you the part numbers for the rocker and tie rod.........

if you can get the spring off the shock you could easily measure the stroke that would confirm one or the other..........not forgetting to strettch it in case it has a top out spring.....or get it serviced anyway they would be able to say then......

  15. The giveaway for an R shock is the spring. I think it's rated at 100kg or more. The standard spring is 80 from memory.

  16. I had a 999R shock with a 100 spring on........a std mono is generally around 68, a bip around 80.......

  17. Just having a further fish about on google and stuff. The shock im buying looks very similar to 998 shocks . Can they be interchanged between models? I'm starting to smell a rat :( especially as the chap doesnt want to give me a part number on the shock
