Time For A Laugh Jacket Sizes

  1. I finally got the two vintage leather bike jackets today and both are of really nice quality just as expected however the sizes well the one with no brand name just a little tag that says "XL" well no way Hose" does it fit. Now I measured my chest before buying it and it's 46", we also remeasured it today and it's still 46" my waist is 38", however my belly is more like 48" but that is not really the issue as the jackets waist appears to be about 32" as the zip is about 6" apart when I put it on and there is no way it is ever going to meet and do up the CE armour in the jacket is also a weird feeling here it is:-

Shame as the mat black on the sleeves is a mesh to would be good for the summer and warmer weather here.

Now the Weiss jacket is a bit grubby just gave it a quick wipe down will give it another going over then leather treatment later:-

It has some slight scuffs on it but it is what one expects when buying something like this. This one I can "JUST" get the waist done up if I breathe in hard, need to lose some of the gut, but once it's done up can breathe :p :D also sitting on the bike is not uncomfortable so need to do some walking and see about that pedal (push bike) cycle to lose a bit of the paunch and get fitter again.

We that is the nephew and I had quite a laugh at this so am going to buy a larger sized vintage leather jacket most likely a 50" chest as if I get a bit fitter and my chest expands a 48" one will just be a repeat of this debacle :worried: .

  3. Thank you they are nice jackets I wore the Weiss branded one for a little 50 mile ride out this evening.

Exercise will do it as well and have been chair bound for too long but things are changing as what keeps me tied to the house is fading and we cannot do anything to stop it from happening. Am just about to see about a bicycle to help with the fitness and will start walking again that always helps me loose it.

  4. I’ve lost about 25kgs, in the last few years, almost entirely due to cycling, although I also do yoga and go to the gym. I must get back into swimming

  5. Jacket sizes, in fact all sizing, is a joke. I am xl in klim, 4xl in alpinestars at least, 48 in rst are good but 48 in many other brands isn’t even close to getting done up. And no, that isn’t euro 48 vs U.K. 48 ;)

  6. I wear 36-38" jeans/trousers because i've put on a lot of weight. I ordered Oxford Mondial XL size trousers as my L's no longer fit. Had to return them and get a pair of XXL ones! Sizing is a joke. It's the first XXL item I've ever bought.

  7. Damn if I lost 25kg that would take me down to the weight I was when I left scholl aged 16 with a 36" chest 32" waist an you could count my ribs and hip bone protruded. Chest is now 46" waist 38" and no you cannot count my ribs now. I have my old denim cuto offs from when I was 18 and in my late 30's and the oldest one cannot get on at all and the larger later one can JUST squeeze into with just a T-Shirt on and these used to go on over my leather bike jacket. When we first moved out here we had no car and renting a house in the centre of the city so I walked everywhere and I lost weight ince Mother declining health meant that had to be near all the time have not been out unless it's to go and get stuff which means driving even the garden has been neglected. It's just a matter of time now before leaves us and things will really be changed.

I seriously doubt that I will lose even 10kg probably 5kg after a while with exercise. No gyms here either don't know where one can swim we live in a small village just two small shops and a cafe that's it.

  8. Am awaiting delivery of three pairs of bike tousers all 38" waist hope have better luck with those. A pair of leather ones, pair of Bike jeans and a pair of Cordura with some Hi-Vis panels. Let's hope when they arrive they fit as returning them to the UK would be a little costly.

  9. The S, M, L & XL etc are pointless. If you want clothes to fit, get a tape and measure your chest waist etc. Then you buy form the size chart whichever jacket corresponds to your measurements.

I have so called small, medium and large clothes which are all the same size!

  10. It's not only jackets and trousers gloves also vary so much the Bogotto gloves I bought that had to go back due to stiching failing after being worn twice were 3XL he LS2 replacements as they didn't have any more 3XXL of the Bogotto's the LS2 ones are 2XL the surplus East German border guards gloves have had for decades are sixe 9 1/2.

  11. Oh but we did measure my chest and re-measured it again today and it's still 46" which is whatthis jacket was supposed to be though on just checking the little tab at the coller says XL ....... Hmmmmm

  12. I was extremely overweight, I’m now 100 kgs, so more work to do. My waist has gone from 46 to 34”.

We too live in a small village, one pub and a petrol station, the gym and pool is 8 miles away, but I usually cycle 5 times a week.

  13. At the moment I weigh 102kgs and I just realised that I do not have any swimwear at all now in fact I cannot remamber the last time I went swimming it's that long ago hmmm if it's when I left Horley then that's some 22 years ago now. Have been to the beach once since we got here and that was in December 2017 and we just looked at it Mother had to go to teh hospital there for a caterract op there was 4" of snow on the ground the beach is a 3-4hour drive from here closer is the Danube and there are swimming and bathing beaches on it's banks I understand.

Our nearest petrol station is the town down the hill which is 5 miles and t has a few shops, one supermarket, a local not a chained store, Hardware a cafe chemist insurance office a clothes shop, a second hand shop and a local run charity shop and a doctors office and dentist plus a fairly large Christian church (Authodox Christian).

Used to belong to a gym in Horley but due to injuries sustain in a fairly bad bike accident back in 83 some of the cardo machines I cannot use properly due to reduced rotation in my left wrist to be able to grip the pull down bars have to being my elbow in and then it hits my ribs so cannot pull the bars down if Imove my hand out further so the elbow clears cannot get teh leverage to use the machine. One of the reasons for wanting a lighter bike. PUsh ups are a problem as well the wrist joint was broken so badly that my hand was besides the wrist broke the joint right across including the thumb but nothing came out so no scars seems this was worse the joint does not bend as it should and does not bear weight well still.

  15. I was told at Altberg when getting measured, we don’t use those foreign sizes I’m a 11 W apparently

  16. Well seeing as how am in SE Europe we have not much choice about using funny foreign sizes with shoes and boots I find a lot depends on the styling as to what size fits me.

  17. Same here, albeit SW Europe, but I feel your pain.....

  18. In KLIM I am an XL with room. In RST I range from xl to xxl depending on cut. Frank Thomas often anything from xl to xxxl. And if I dare look at alpine stars…there are t enough X’s.

    It’s ridiculous

  19. Took a look at those and to be honest don't think much of them in fact finidng a jacket that is made properly seems a huge hassle today even stupidly priced ones at over £1000 are not done properly it seems. A REAL motorcycle jacket has a dropped back to cover the lower back when you lean forwards found a leather "bike Style" jacket with that but it's fashion one rather that aproper bike jaclet:-

Doubt the leather is much cope and probably very thin. Now this is like they should be:-

Though mine had smooth arms with out the banding. Will have to make do with this Hein Gerrick for now.
