In a grump tonight so thought I would ask. Despite all the hype, hoopla and tax payers money spent, everyone I have spoken with couldnt give two shites about the Olympics. Now Im all up for the jobs it ceates and world unity blah blah, and it is a once in a lifetime event for most folk.... But Im sick of it being stuffed down our faces all the time on tv, radio, newspapers etc and everyone being a 'proud sponser' (like mcdonalds sponsering althletics). Our roads are falling to bits, but all the money is spent on other things. And listening to the government harp on about how all the public are really excited...Grrr! So, do you care? I feel better now.
I hate it at the moment. Currently, as a Royal Mail manager I have to ensure that tickets are delivered under unduly strict guidelines (already had arguments with customers who weren't in for delivery & then turned up with the wrong ID to collect their tickets..) & also make contingency plans to enable Posties to avoid the various Torch runs in my area. Pain in the arse so far as I'm concerned.
Went to Rykers the other week and every sodding road was shut as they where sorting it out for the Olympics ... ok good the roads are getting sorted round there but.... I think a lot of the buildings will become white elephants, the jobs will be temporary. Some of the wages people are getting paid are mental!!! £1000 a week per person to look after athletes hospitality. The country is skint or so we are told yet we can find millions for the Olympics ??? Id rather 1. The world Cup (football) had come here and even more so fix the bloody roads and potholes that our road tax and council tax is sposed to be paying for. Looking forward to having the summer off ... not.
total waste of money the millions being totally wasted on carrying this olympic torch around the country the country is broke, there is no need for an olympic flame and its co2 omissions, the government should have set a green policy example and said no olympic flame
Maybe look at it this way.....less traffic for two weeks...just like the Royal wedding, me and my mate Pierpaolo had such a blast that day...roads blissfully empty. also football matches (I hate football too) are good for bikers. In fact we need to think of more ideas to keep joe public sat on his sofa watching the goggle box the glass is half empty because I've drunk the other half, can I have some more?
I think is where we the tax payer fork out £Gazzilions to keep Seb Coe in a job and own a derelict stadium next year. Oh and whilst they are spending all OUR money on all this shite yet they are taking local services from us in the shape of cut backs because we have to make savings!!! WTF But its ok cause we have the Olympics and Seb Coe has a job. Massive piss boiler as far as I am concerned
What? I paid £6 for first bit of tickets bought last year to be delivered. Yesterday I bought more and paid another £6 despite first bit not arriving. Each time it stated it is £6 for courier delivery. RM is not courier, Rob where are my tickets?
Absolutely sick of hearing about it already..... And I can't have any leave over the summer cos the Squadron I'm on are covering security duties for the whole thing. But at least the roads will be quiet, especially on the days when there's a Brit almost winning something!
There is a positive side to this holidays abroad should be cheaper because some people feel obliged to stay at home and watch our money/taxes being wasted, could be a good time to take a holiday
About the olympics? no, not in the slightest. Nor the world cup, or football in general. Now, if you made it full contact and added some motorbikes............. I appreciate if you have trained for years then the olympics is a good thing but surely all that money could be spent on more worthwhile things. Race track smooth roads anyone?
the torch thing is coming within 300 yards of my house twice within a few days and the bike road race is even closer. Apart from the velodrome stuff and the sports that the boys do, largely can't raise any enthusiasm. The 'special lanes' and the lack of tickets for Londoners who've paid for the bloody thing has killed it for me. Will probably go on holiday and have the kitchen done while we're gone. Get your fill of Box Hill while it has the ultra smooth surface. It's coming up right after the racers have finished with it - not frost-friendly aparently. One positive is that my home area is really quiet with all the roads closed. Lovely!
I genuinely don't care about it at all. Complete and utter waste of time and money, as others have said the money would be better spent making the roads better for tax paying motorists!! Bah!!
Ha! If drawing giant knobs on stuff was an olympic event, us Brits would be a shoo-in for gold .
Couldn't give a monkeys about the Olympics and as far as the Queens little boat trip down that mucky old river, well that's another complete and utter waste. Steve
