1260 Solid Suspension

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by aviating cud, Jul 5, 2024.

  1. I may be overthinking this but today after my ride out I noticed that the suspension on my 1260s was rock solid with the ignition turned off, which I’ve never noticed before. It works fine with the ignition on, although it can be a bit sticky on rebound. Is it normal or do I have an issue? Thanks

  2. It’s normal. Until the ignition is on, the damping circuits are closed.

  3. Thanks. I did think I was over thinking it.

  4. Ref my other thread, do you know what happens if the damping fork electrickery is disconnected (or becomes disconnected) while riding? Does it go solid like with ignition off?

  5. I think if that part of the bike goes Pete tong, you've got bigger issues than ride comfort :D

  6. Well yes but I'm thinking of unplugging mine and riding it to see if I can isolate my front end clonk issues. You'd think there would be a failsafe mode of some sort ...

  7. I have often wondered what happens when issues are detected with handling/braking/chassis circuits & sensors as to whether there is a software control 'limp home' mode similar to the one with engine related faults.

Being a (retired) software tester I know that software is great when working fine but very odd things can happen when it's not. So what sort of fail safe routines are there if the software decides to throw a wobbly or even worse hasn't being coded well?

  8. I'm assuming angry flashing lights and a 'stop now' message of some sort on the dash ...

  9. Doesn’t it go ‘soggy’ ie turn off most of the damping so it’s still rideable if it fails?

  10. One would think that's more logical and safe.

  12. If power is lost, or it’s unplugged, the forks will go hard.

  14. That's disturbing. Makes me appreciate the simplicity and adjustability of manual Ohlins.
