Good afternoon everyone. Quick update on my third month with the 1299s. The bike now has just over 3k on it, during my brief ownership I have covered 800 miles. I think it is an incredible-looking machine, every time you look at it you spot another mini marvel in engineering. The battery, tyres, and brake fluid have all been changed. I dropped the forks 10mm through the yokes and that`s about it. However, I can honestly say that it is not the bike for me. Yes, I have ridden other v-2 bikes and read most of the 1299 reviews with their good and bad points. After a 60-mile trip to the lakes yesterday, I swapped bikes with my son and rode the gsxr back home. Mind you it`s still not for sale.lol
It`s a bloody chore riding it, sounds like a bag of hammers and everything feels like it needs twice the effort and input compared to the zx10r,gsxr, and the Fireblade. However, it trumps them all in kudos value. Just my take on it.No offence intended.
None taken! I don’t have one but fancy one hence the question. I’ve a 998 top of my list for now, though.
It’s a track bike absolutely no point to it on uk roads apart from as you say kudos. *most people I’ve spoken to will add the 1199 to that too. Get a specced out 899 or 959 for serious road riding and I think you will change your opinion.
Agree m8.I read all the info and knew what I was getting myself into.I just wanted one.lol I have had a Honda Sp1 and the use of a Ducati 848, however back to the Inline 4 for me at the moment.
S1000rr Gen 4 was the easiest bike to ride that I have ever owned. And I’ve owned a lot of bikes. Also probably the best bike I’ve ever owned. But I would not buy another one. No soul.
I concur with that mate,I just fancied the 1299s and needed to scratch an itch. I am fortunate to have 3 other inline-four litre bikes at my disposal.
I now have 1500 miles on the bike. I have updated the tracker and bought another rear tyre. The clutch has been bled and I am getting used to the ,ultra crap indicator switch, side stand . Why the fook does it need a 6 speed gearbox, when third gear is all you need on the road. Fuel consumption is in the high 20,s. This bike does not have a hint of corrosion on it and I can spend hrs cleaning it. So whilst I do prefer an inline 4, this 1299s, purchase is the best money that I have ever spent.
Yeah I love my Pani-R, I know what you mean about the indicator switch….feels like it’s gonna break and I press it again and get the maps up…lol I’ve wound all the adjusters off and I think I’ll need lighter springs….position is wrist heavy and my Aprilia brakes feel better (could just need new pads), the heat it kicks out is so much more than my Aprilia but god I love it….love opening the garage and seeing them both….getting the Duke out and taking it out…just makes me smile..don’t think I’ll ever get rid of it
Why drop forks? Thats what I want to know. That makes it even more on its nose, bike doesnt need that. But heyho, maybe it does. Whats the rational? I have a 1299S and I have no probs getting it to turn tight in its oem fork config. Can someone in the know explain, be very helpful to me as i track mine. Thanks.
I think it's a common phrase used (dropping the forks through the yokes) when it's the exact opposite that people actually do (dropping the yokes down the forks). Dropping the forks through the yokes would make it more like a chopper, no?
Anyway,I now have 10mm of fork leg protruding from the top yoke.lol Reason being is that I ride a lot of twisty B roads and the set up works for me and it kind of turns in like my zx10r,so familiarity.
Wait till the thermostat goes. Thats fun and games to remove and replace. £130.20p inc VAT just for another identical piss poor unit that will eventually fail. If its any consolation, I too have snapped a mirror with just a featherlite glancing graze against garage wall. Make sure you fit throttle mod.
