950 Keyless Fuel Cap Yea Or Nay

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Dave-o, Jul 12, 2024.

  1. Hi folks,

I have a V2S Multi and am considering replacing the fuel cap with a keyless unit.

Does anyone have pros and/or cons for the fitment of this unit?

    TIA

  2. wouldn't be without one. just not paying ducati or rizoma prices. got a very similar one on aliexpress or ebay for peanuts

  3. Really don’t see the point of keyless fuel caps. Are they so you can re-fuel with the engine running or is it that time is so precious unlocking it with a key would eat into your value time?

  4. good point for usual key ignition. but got keyless on mine so never have to use a key at all and it just stays zipped away all day which is lot less faff

  5. That's what I was thinking, especially in the wet. Less chance of losing the key too.

  6. It's a nice addition, was worried about it going wrong when I first got the bike but 50k miles later it's still going strong.

  7. I got a keyless fuel cap for my first Multistrada in 2010. The same cap is now in its third bike, 14 years later. Must have done 80K miles or so.

Always worked perfectly. So convenient. What a good buy.

  11. first thing I bought for my 1200s dvt, bought one of the aliexpress caps for £30 and well impressed with it.
just handy not having to go routing in my jacket for the key plus it looks better imo

  12. If you have keyless ignition, a keyless fuel cap makes sense, as you don’t ever need to take the key out of your pocket, so can leave your gloves on when refuelling.

  13. I worry enough about the Ducati one (although it’s always been fine) but not sure I’d trust an Ali express one!

  14. Granted but i'm talking manual press and twist to open not expensive electric ones

  15. I think they're just the non-locking 'race' ones.

  16. exactly what they are bud, just a simple spring loaded twist cap with a small piece of rod on the underneath that pulls the rubber o ring tight on the cap to seal.

  17. Prefer key & ignition than all this special expensive equipment.

  18. My bike already is keyless ignition, so tank keyless makes sense, just keep the key in pocket, and do what you need. Only have to pull it out for top box and panniers. But that's fine in my view. Seeing how BMW have done keyless panniers - I think I would hate it. Plus more complexity which I can't see the value add of.

Deffo would buy keyless fuel tank cap again.

  19. I use a dumb key for the panniers and the seat lock so my key can stay in my pocket the whole time.

That way I don’t park the bike in London all day and leave the key in the seat lock all day.

(Which may have happened on more than one occasion)

  20. I am very pro keyless, they never leave my pocket unless I'm in the panniers. I have the boring fuel cap assembly for sale if anyone needs on the for sale section :D
