I had been thinking the speedo was over reading and on a recent trip I checked the odometer value and it was way over what was expected - 180 instead of 110 miles. So I dismantled the front wheel and checked the speedo drive which is the correct 25/9, so what is going on And then one of those Doh! moments perhaps it's clocking kms & not miles... yep 180 kms is 110 miles. So that is correct then, the speedo has both kmph & mph speedo indicator rings but clocks distance (only) in kilometres?
The bike was first UK registered in 81 which is it's date of production & I bought it in 84 (yes I've owned it for 40 years) and only just recently recommissioned it and got it on back on the road. And now I have been reminded, I do seem to recall it always has clocked in kms. Time hasn't been kind to my memory... ho hum... So, I wonder, did any of these models ever have such a thing as a UK specific speedo?
Early 90's 916's and 748's were certainly delivered with UK lights and speedo in a box for the dealer to fit. Andy
