MY rear disc failed the mot,because of excess movement. got the bike up on the bench and it looks like i need to dissemble all of the hub just to check if the disc bolts are tight before i can renew the disc. there is no access for an allen key/head to check the bolts are tight. if they are tight then the holes on the disc are worn. has anyone had this problem and had to dissemble the hub.
there has always been movement in the disc, ie past ten years. it should be the standard disc that comes with the bike.
that is a strange one - std spec is solidly mounted and a straightforward tighten up. If it's always been loose then yes, the problem goes back to whenever it became loose and most likely scenario is that the constant play on braking (which should never have been there) has worn disc and even fixings to a degree which has made it unacceptable now. A keen Ducati MOT-er would have spotted that first or second time it was presented.
just checked the movement and it can move 1.5 mm up,down or around. as cookster said on the first reply, its classed as a floating disc
don,t want to dismantle it yet,until i double check what type of disc it is. if its a floating disc should there be 1-1.5mm play ?. i will attach photo,s
forgot about youtube, cheers. unfortunately i still cannot get access to remove the bolts. looks like they upgraded/changed the gap between the caliper holder and the bolts. photo attached. maybe if i cut 10mm off an allen key and fit it into the bolt and slacken it with a spanner.
the gap in the photo opposite the bolt is the widest point,thats the middle of the circlip. its a 2007.
Just remove the big nut on the LHS of the rear hub and then you can pull the axle out from the right. Remove it completely and free access is granted to the disk bolts. NB if the axle hasn’t been out for a few years and/or wasn’t greased on reassembly you will probably have to knock it out with a rubber mallet or a regular hammer with a block of wood twixt axle and hammer blows.

While you’re in there it would be a good idea to remove the eccentric hub as well and give the inside of the swing arm a good clean, you can bet your bottom dollar it’s full of dust and crap from the road. Make sure everything is well greased when reassembling to avoid corrosion in the future.
