That's impressive. If it's just mapping changes you are making why is it ending up particularly peaky? Or have you changed cams or inlet or exhaust as well?
1199s are always a bit peaky unless you do a bit of blueprinting. My friends bike has had that done and the mid range trough has disappeared, top ends are about the same. The last exhaust system I had on was better in the mid range but unfortunately destroyed itself.
Got MOT - success! Kept conking out in traffic at every set of lights on way home - love the fueling on these Baby Rs with full system!
Only mad dogs and Englishmen. It’s currently about 25°C and full sun outside my garage door and I’ve just spent the last hour and a half washing and polishing the V4 Pikes Peak. Need to do a complete change of clothes and shower Andy
Bought 18 litres of fuel, to fill up the tanks on 2 bikes ready gor me and the boy to go out in the morning, with the remainder, I topped up a third bike
I just did 35 miles on mine and it only cut out once on the whole ride. Including through towns. But, I don’t have your exotic system (yet!). Also fitted a new tank pad to the Striple as a reward for being such a good little bike.
Runout over the Staffs moors and return via the Peak. Started to gel with it and even managed a few wheelies ( poor ones )
Be interested to know. I found the 01’s a little, er, uninteresting to ride on. Much prefer the M7’s and 9’s but have recently put Dunlop SportSmart TT’s on my Monster and transformed it. Although I’ve really liked the M7/9’s they seem to make the steering a bit flighty on sit up bikes whereas on sports bikes the front end feels great. With the more rounded profile of the TT’s, as opposed to the more Toblerone shape of the M7/9’s the Monster just flows through ‘flip flops’. I think I’ll try them on the Multistrada 1200s DVT. Just a bit concerned about the mileage I’ll get. One thing someone mentioned to me about the M7’s, later in their life they go off. Mine certainly felt like they were going to ‘wash out’ on the Monster. The carcass on the Dunlops is far stiffer than the Metzlers, so you run them at lower pressure. The V4 Pikes Peak has got to be a good bike, with the right tyres I’m sure you’ll gel with it. Might be worth a think about the Dunlops, although I know you like the M7’s.
Fitted the Öhlins rear shock to the Diavel. All in all about 5 hours with breaks. Not the easiest of jobs but I will hopefully be rewarded with a smoother ride.
@Android853sp, spot on. So plush just like always after fitting an Öhlins shock. Cost over £1K but can already tell from a 30 minute bimble that’s money well spent.
Thought I’d take the bike out for a very short spin around the local ring road to see if the fueling issues would “clear” with some sustained higher revving. Basically, as soon as I started it today, it was idling like an absolute pig - cutting in and out between one and two cylinders. Managed to pogo out of town along to the ring road and tried to accelerate - didn’t want to go past 8k at all, then holding it there it cut in and out onto two and revved to 10k ish. Coming back, it was no better and wouldn’t idle in a stable way due to constant cutting in and out of 1 or 2 cylinders firing. Now need to do a bit of troubleshooting- gut feel is it appears to be ignition/plugs rather than fuel starvation so could be coil or some annoying loose connection somewhere. Lucky I didn’t book the Brands road bike TD for tomorrow… EDIT Having thought about this and the stuttering when the bike tries to rev past 8k, I now think it could be a fuel issue.
Dropped the SL off at my dad's tonight as he is taking it for an MOT for me tomorrow . Came home on his 1200 bonnie. It's only about 5 miles but it was a nice chilled ride and I can see the attraction with these bikes, it's even got cruise control!
A pass for the MOT. last year 1,200 miles. This year 288 . I feel ashamed and dirty. Although a new bike this year has had just over 4,500 miles added so I guess that's why .
First observed ride with a new associate. According to the bike, air temperature hit 33°C and have to say, my bottom seemed to confirm that Andy
