I took my dad there by helicopter for his 80th when Pecco won in 2022, as you say under normal circumstances its a pretty average and expensive day out in the grand scheme of things and you would normally much rather watch on the telly at home but if you are able to make the extra effort its a very, very enjoyable day out (we got to land in the infield too so no need for a taxi or bus and no traffic jams going home ).
What was the heli ride ? Out of interest, cant afford it this year either...The cost of driving down, hotac, tickets, eating out... Still weather forecast is looking nice..ish
It was around about 2 grand which i obviously swallowed in one (or my bonus did) but if you split it four ways it would obviously start to become a bit more do-able. (that was from Stapleford Abbots near London)
Cool..I did a course on the GE90 at Cincinatti, they showed us around all the static plant there. Give my right arm to get off night shifts that are the norm in aero.. Let me know if theres an opening lol..
For about 4 years we used the Park and Ride buses from either Towcester Race Course or Sixfields in Northampton. But last year they stopped doing it, so we have had to bite the bullet for car parking. Before that, we used to park in a campsite just down the road at the Stowe end of the circuit, but getting away afterwards was always a nightmare.
I went yesterday. Drove straight in. Guided to a park 20 mins walk away (no shuttle but thats OK). Abbey B stand tickets. Stand half empty but opposite pit area and medium sized screen. Food was shite, coffee had 30 min cue to order and further 20 min to collect! One machine had broken apparently and just a chaotic mess. Fantastic moto 2 and motoGP race. Did not stay for moto2. Drove straight out. Some significant areas to improve on please Silverstone but the racing was fantastic. There will be no que until there is a British rider in the top class and that is unlikely in the next few years at least.
Anyone go to the f1 as well as the moto gp able to compare experiences? Presumably the food is shite at that too because thats what Britain does best but how about the rest of the weekend? I know for a fact its even more expensive so what does Silverstone lay on for the souped up go kart fans?
They should be all over open air barbeques/canteen and a nice area you can sit to eat it (ala Valencia), absolute piece of piss and huge mark up.
I looked into similar to take my father to the F1 at Silverstone for his 60th. In the end I flew him and my brother out to the Singapore F1, put us in a hotel for 3 days, and got grandstand tickets because it was cheaper than the helicopter ride to Silverstone! I have been to both a few times, and actually have done both this year. The F1 is a different animal as far as what is put on, who is there, and how many people are there, so it feels more special. Cost wise once there it isn't a lot different, however the F1 tickets (if you pay for them) are stupendously high compared to other events at Silverstone or compared to other F1 venues.
Not having a pop but why did you leave at 2:30 when you’ve paid for the whole day? Genuinely interested as it seems you weren’t the only one by a long stretch and you all missed the first British winner in almost 10 years.
