I have a 996 that I have been doing a bit of tlc on, there is one issue that I am struggling with, after idling for a while, it throws coolant out After some research, and comments from other owners, it was decided that the expansion tank was the issue, however, I have fitted a new expansion tank, and the rubber seal, 20 minutes idling, no issus, at around 25 minutes, it starts spitting steam and coolant out Any ideas? thanks https://youtube.com/shorts/ct3KQhGzsvQ?si=jUB0X0C3dbkBWM7L
Just an observation, the small pipe that goes to the secondary expansion tank, doesn't have a jubilee clip securing it in place to the upper tank, if that is not secured tightly, would that cause an issue, with it not holding pressure?
Max level when cold is too much on my 916 and it will cough the excess out. I fill to min level when cold.
i am rusty but what is water temp reading when water spat, have you confirmed where water/steam is exiting, and have fan(s) come on at this stage?
In the video in the opening post, it shows the steam/coolant appearing to come from between the expansion and the filler neck
I know it should, I can see the markings where it should be, the question was more along the lines of, with the clip missing, would/could that cause the issue, if it is not sealing correctly?
I will replace the missing pipe clamp, reduce the coolant level to minimum, and run it up to temp again in the morning, and get more accurate info regarding running temp if/when it starts blowing off
Agreed. Could be the O-ring on the filler assembly. I'd unscrew the the two bolts securing it, pull it out and check/replace the O-ring (No.4).
I replaced the O ring and the expansion tank by the same time, the filler neck and cap are the original ones though
