i have a 916bip with 50mm JHP pipes and chip but have no idea what would be a safe limit to rev it to. i have been told 9k but that seems a little low and it's still making good power beyond that... any idea's??
Mine cuts out at a tad under 10,500. Makes peak power at 9,900. I try to keep it under 10k for longevity...
9,000 to 9,500 is a good indicator to keep engine life up and overevving does not help as it can drastically shorten engine life, there is no use in pushing the bike hard as the torque of the larger motors will keep it pulling through.
does my bike have a problem then?? at silverstone i had time to look at my speedo down hanger straight and was indicating 120mph (keeping to 10k rpm). no wonder people were flying past!! on my 750srad i don't have time to look at speedo but have seen on vids that i'm doing indicated 145mph. on the srad i usually run at the front of inters or back end of fast group - on the duke i'm mid inters at best!
Your gearing must be low, I think, as at 10,000 rpm I am doing 125 mph on a 748R, seems a little strange as I have lower gearing than standard
You say that its still pulling hard at your rev limit, could the rev counter be reading high ? There have been a couple on here lately with the same problem, it has an adjuster, I would check to see. Steve
Indeed, I have +3 teeth on the rear (39T) and 10k in top gear would be around 160mph. On standard gearing 10k would probably be more like 170mph...
mine @ 10k in top indicates just over 170mph..theres more revs to be had but i very rarely take her over 9k in any gear..it just seems a little brutal, plus these are nigh on 20 yr old bikes and a little mechanical sympathy goes a long way. They are torque monsters, not revvy screamers.
