I wonder how much they earn - Redding and Smith I mean. I bet it's not a lot. Don't blame them for taking the cash, most of us would do exactly the same.
cmon Bradders you understand the game better than that mate. Its a Birtish company (clues in the name) and they're wanting British riders, so they bloody should be IMO To be perfectly honest I'd be fucking apoplectic if they'd gone and used Spanish or Italian riders, they get more than enough help in Motogp as it is. The Spanish are dominating the series because they have the investment all the way from the grass roots and its all aimed at getting Spanish riders, with Spanish firm sponsorship on a Spanish run grid with an end game of getting them worldwide exposure.........and I'm not Spanish. Hopefully BT will get our boys enough exposure so that they in turn get more UK fans, which in turn will make them more appealing to some of our UK firms wanting a global exposure. What we need is more money in our grass roots and some of the worlds biggest companies backing them (UK does have some of the biggest believe it or not, probably more so in the banking sector but still) The Spanish & in some instances the Italians have had a far easier passage through to the best rides in Motogp simply down to the sponsorship from firms that back them, with a bit of help from our larger companies that may very well get turned on its head. We have the talent mate, its unfortunately just a bloody money game. Hopefully BT's efforts can start the ball rolling.
Do you seriously believe BT are doing this to promote "British talent"? This is to gain market share in the TV/Media market from Sky. Shimples.
Redding and Smith are themselves a product of Spanish investment in young racers, both having had to go to Spain to improve/be seen. It's not surprising, the Spanish have had a vibrant youth racing scene for at least the last two decades, hence the current rash of Spanish gp racers and champions. Back in the day budding gp racers would have had to come to England to be noticed. In another decade or so it'll probably be America that breeds the young stars. What pisses me off though, is that Dorna are trying to turn a world series into a domestic one by having no less than four gps in their home country. I can understand to a certain extent why America has 3 races (money, basically), and why they would race in an empty stadium in Qatar (money again), but Spain is skint. Yamaha's Lin Jarvis said recently that motogp should be going to India and China (among others) where bike sales are skyrocketing and there's a huge interest (and no lack of money) in bikesport. I agree with him. Parking motogp in Dorna's back yard benefits no-one but themselves and the local riders, and puts everyone else at a disadvantage.
BT see value in MGP and the Brit riders in helping either switch viewers from Sky or top up their Sky subscription. I'm just bitter because I wont be able to watch MGP next year. Switching not an option and I am not paying another £15 pm. I knocked back movies and sports some time ago and only got HD so I could watch Eurosport HD and the racing. Guess I'll be finding mates to lig from come MGP time...
Thankfully my local boozer has just had satellite telly installed, so I won't miss many races, but it still bugs me that there'll be no terrestrial coverage. I can't see any reason at all to pay for a tv license now.
I saw my Fizzie on Kickstart back in the day. I only took it to Gordon Farley's for some electrical work, and there he was on telly using it as a paddock bike!
BT dont give a flying F about the who's what's where's and why's..they want a piece of the action and want to move into this area of the media and challenge SKY..this isnt romance, this is capitalism. if they were soooo bothered about backing the brits, they would be all over the TT, and sponsoring the riders named above to name just a cpl of options.
motorcycle racing aint making many riders (or teams) rich so no surprise its about money. BT are using british talent as its the british market they are concentrating on promoting for now. While you right that support for the TT is poor and while its an amazing spectacle and experience for those who make it to the island, but for ppl at home only mildly into bikes it doesn't make great TV as they are racing against the clock not each other this kind of racing is what we all want to see more profile in the sport means more fans and sponsors, more fans and sponsors means more money, more money means more teams and manufacturers will get involved as it will sell more bikes. its not brain surgery all in all competition is a good thing if it forces the dominant megoliths (in all industries media, bikes, cars whatever) to be more innovative let face it, many of us like motorcycle racing. It cant be a bad thing if it gets a bit of a better profile in this country. the spanish are dominant at the moment but their country is economically fucked so sports bike sale are terrible. UK, germany and US are richer so the manufactruers will want more sales there so dorna will be doing deals to make that happen in spain everyone from grannies to kiddies ride, acceptance and appreciation of bikes and riders is everywhere. not at all like here (or the states) lets hope this changes i say let em earn their endorsement cash, better they promote their sport than fucking pefume imho
how the fook are BT going to give more exposure to the Brit lads?? For starters, a lot more people are able to watch motogp on terrestrial telly..are they going to have them appear next to andy murray or something?? BT Sport...its a bit like Budweiser sponsoring football...
