I have a top box but it's removed, so I'm looking at tail packs. Kriega is a brand I'm very familiar with and have yet to be let down by them, however I can't decide between the US-20 and US-30 tail pack for my MTS 1260... Has anyone got either of these with some insight to which is better for additional storage? The use case is to roll it up and stick it into the exhaust pannier when not in use, when in use, primarily it'll be storing additional clothes/liner for my bike suit.
Only you know how bulky the items are ? To answer your question, Owned a US-30 but i never used it so sold it on. Still have a US-20 , 2x 10 so plenty of options. I can get most of what I need into a US-10 , windstopper gilet, outer waterproof jacket, gloves , necktube and spare earplugs.
I like the US20 on the tail, and a US10 on the tank. No rucksack either. I put my waterproofs under the us20.
I would get a 30 as a minimum size. I dont know where Kriega get the ltr ratings from but none of their bags or rucksacks are really as big as the ltrs capacity makes out. I run a 30 as the centre and main lashed down bag, with a 20 on each side and a 10 on top, for the back of my superduke. 20s will be pretty filled by a set of walking boots for instance, leaving maybe 20-30% for a rolled pair of jeans or a few t shirts.
This oddly was one niggle I have when looking at the packs, by long ways, do you mean the opening end facing the rider (or away from rider) vs what is shown on their website where the opening end is to the left or right side of the bike? If so, I'd MUCH rather the bag fit length wise... As for the sizes, I agree @990Glen, I've had a Kriega backpack for decades now and the space is certainly not 20 litres.... With that in mind, I think a 30L will be ideal as I will also have my 2 panniers which holds pretty much everything I need to live and enjoy time off the bike. With the additional tail pack it'll be great for extra items as mentioned such as waterproof liners or a pair of trainers.
You may be a dyed-in-the-wool Kriega fan but I think they are expensive for what you get. I'ver used Lomo before and rate their kit. May dry rucksack has seen me right for >5 years and cost £17! https://www.lomo.co.uk/product-category/motorcycle/
At least on my Street Triple it does. If the bag is full to capacity it does limit your movement back in the seat a little if lengthwise
Yep I fit it with the opening at the back above the tail light and it doesn't rub on my back protector like it did on my Speedy which became annoying.
I just purchased the US 30 from Helmet City in West Bay. He had all the sizes in stock. I liked the 30 as it was enough room for my wife and I to stash our stuff for a quick weekend getaway. I could still just barely throw my leg over and all the straps fit nicely and secure on my 848. I think we will probably add a 20 on top when we start going farther away.
