Hope This Isn’t Anyone On Here

  1. Going out of Buxton toward Leek just passed Harpur Hill turn off on your left climbing uphill, slight bend to right then approach a slight right and left almost a straight road. Very sad sight. Be careful buddy.

  2. My brother said it was virtually a straight road so a strange accident.
He nearly gave up biking last year when the guy in front of him went straight on into some trees and was killed instantly.
My brother ran to try and help but it was too late. The low sun was in their eyes and it seems he didn’t see the very slight bend. My brother is still reliving what happened a year later.

  3. That’s terrible.

  4. Dreadful news and RIP to all . Sympathies to the families too.

Currently near the Dordogne area where nearly all car drivers are driving well and bikes going faster than cars but not being stupid or dangerous. One can have a lot of fun while still being sensible, here you keep to the limits until you get to the twisties and very unlikely to have a radar set up there. A few cameras around but won’t be an issue to UK vehicles.

Obviously no idea what happened in the tragic accident so let’s not assume anything negative.

  5. I remember an accident near Sutton Bridge in Norfolk where the husband of the Clothing Sales Manager at SeaStar Superbikes was taken out by a doddery old bloke in a Volvo that did not see him in the setting sun and pulled straight out in front of him. He could have pressed charges for driving without due care and attention but thought the better of it as the damage was done. The forks were ripped of his 1198S and his arm sadly got caught in the wire restraining central reservation barrier that ultimatley severed the nerve, rendering him paralysed one one side, with an eventual amputation being the only recourse. Very sad and ultimately took its toll on their relationship which was even sadder. Tragically the dealer then lost one of it's salesmen in an accident a few years later. No accounting for fate. There but for the grace of God and all.

  6. Odd, I wonder what happened? We need to know how it happened. 3 guys!

A relatively straight road with no junction. 3 bikes, a car and a van. Hmmm.

The bikes must have been fairly tightly grouped. What happened with the car and the van? Who was on what side of the road? Who was doing what speed? Was there a catastrophic failure or a catastrophic manoeuvre?

It must have been one awful mess for the emergency services to clear up and then of course there’s the families.

As I understand it half an hour later 2 more bikers died in a separate incident and 2 the weekend before, all in the Peak District.

You go out for a nice little Sunday morning ride and….

  7. Yep, agreed. As fellow bike riders, it would be very useful to know what actually happened, so that we can keep it in mind and learn from these incidents. But we rarely get all of the details.

  8. And the public perception will still be ‘it’s the bikes fault’ sadly.

  9. It will be sometime yet until details are released by the police investigation team. As we know nothing we should bear in mind there may be prosecutions etc ahead so full details officially unavailable till possible court or coroners court?

  10. On a straight road, the probability is that the accident was the result of some vehicles overtaking others.
