Drawings To Make A Primary Gear Puller

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by buzzer, Jan 12, 2018.

  1. I have recently been re-building a Multistrada engine and noted that the primary gears were very difficult to remove. The official tool was £165 so I decided to try to make one as I have access to a laser cutting company. It took a while to design the tool in Solid Edge (I had to learn that as well so forgive me the basic drawing!!!) but in the end I managed to get some blanks cut and made the tool. Here are a few pictures.

The top is 10 mm and the bottom is 6 mm plate so its quite robust, and it did work rather well, given that the gear was on the taper relay tight!

I used a piece of 3mm wall tube which I split and welded to the top and bottom. I also added a 1/2 square hole so I could hold it with a socket bar.

If anyone wants a copy of the drawing in either Solid Edge or a DWG file which most laser cutters will be familiar with, get in touch and I will send them over. Might help someone out as I know the puller is used on a lot of Ducati engines...

  7. Hi, do you still have those drawings?
The tool should fit for an ST2 from 1998 isn't it?
If so, be so kind to send them to me.
    thanks

  10. Just replied...

  11. I made this puller and it didn't work for me at all. I actually made parts off it from much thicker steel and it still bent like a banana. A simple sturdy 2 arm puller from Amazon did the trick.

  13. I made a similar puller out of 5mm steel, I had to add a brace across the top but it worked well. A hit with the impact gun and it came off.
