Get a Rally, tank range is ace, anything from 240 - 280 depending on wrist action. I had one of the original Aprillia Mille's and that would regularly need a fill up after 65 miles. Harley 48 less than 50 miles to a tank.
More revs = more fuel per mile? I do use the gearbox and the revs more on the V4 than I did on the 1260 I'm sure.
Mine rarely did more than 35mpg. It was better on a decent run but if you use the engine as intended it does guzzle fuel. It’s a trait of all V4 engines. It will be interesting to see if Ducati improve it in the updated 2025 bike.
Absolutely and here's the proof: Below 10,000 the 1260 make the same horsepower as the V4 albeit at about 500rpm lower. More importantly, the 1260 produces no less than 60 ft-lb of torque off-idle and 80 ft-lb across the curve starting at 4000 rpm. The answer to the question why Ducati created a V4 can be answered with four letters: WSBK
in our situation we had to cover over 300 miles a day, so often rode on the local roads until we had to make progress, so the Peage toll was a no brainer. the price per litre isn’t the issue, it’s the range.
Not to be a nitpick, but how does one read fuel consuption from a power output chart? Every day is a school day, and not much happened earlier. I'm ready.
I'm only providing the substantive data to Veetwin's comment's but it makes sense. the more you rev, the more you consume. After that, I'll differ to better educated on the matter to provide your answer.
I regularly get mid to high 40's mpg and I'm happy with that (Pikes Peak). As others have said I'm ready to get off before I need fuel, 150 miles for the light to come on is fine by me. One thing I do notice is the bike is never happy pulling top gear until you get to 70'ish mph. I'm sure Ducati could improve on that which no doubt would help the mpg figure.
comon DarR we all know your a Vtwin fanboy I had my DVT mapped last year at CJS and yes gone from 43 mpg to about 38 whem hooning around ... do I give a fk ... really, NO it now feels like a differnt bike and better in every gear and across the rev range ...smiles for miles and all that if pple want a mile muching machine buy a GS adventurer and then remind every body that they dont need fuel when everone fills up
Actually the first sentence is true, I do prefer the V2-twin on the Multi but I really don't give a flying falcon about fuel consumption. About mapping, I'm thinking about having it done on my Multi.
Took the Streetfighter v4 when a group of us went to Germany, others on 1290 Duperdukes and Touno’s - the Streetfighter was the worst of the lot with the fuel light coming on under 90 miles. Never had range anxiety before that trip, can’t shake it now
Power. Power is directly related to fuel quantity consumed in a given time. Revs do come in to it too. More revs more power.
It must be bad then because my Tuono was bloody awful. If used ‘enthusiastically’ it would be low 20’s mpg. That’s on the road. God knows what it’s like on track.
Before we left I thought, well Aprilia’s are going and they’re terrible on mpg. How wrong I was. They had at least 20 miles further range.
Modes like Urban and Sport are great for giving you options as you ride. But it would also be really useful if there was an "Economy" mode, for those times when fuel is getting low and the next services are still far away. Why do they not provide this option?
That's in how you ride it Shirley, gentle acceleration, and as little braking as possible. And lower power mode (gentler throttle response).
Yes, we don't need programmed modes at all, do we? We can control it ourselves ... But since manufacturers of modern bikes do in fact provide modes, we might as well make the best of them. And an extra-economical mode would be handy occasionally.
