Air Filter

  1. Any recommendations on air filters?

Pipercross style ones look much better, and I would imagine help the "breathing" on the intake compare to the cheap bog standard ones. Do they improve performance at all?

    What does everyone else use?

  2. Got a Pipercross with the old open top airbox mod, sounds nice. Never ridden standard one so can't comment on performance.

  3. K&N all day long…

Oil it, ride it, clean it. It will last over ten years.

  4. I'm also a K and N advocate, which I usually get for most of my bikes, the only exception being a BMC on my ZZR1400 as it gives more flow than the K and N (alledgedly).

I cut an airbox lid, for a larger open flow

I have the K and N re-oiling pack, but they very rarely need done. Highly recommend for the SS, and along with Flatslides, you get a lovely induction noise

  6. How often should you oil a K&N filter for an ss ?

  7. The first time when you take it out new from the box, and then each time you clean it (soak in K&N cleaning product, rinse abundantly, let dry, apply new K&N oil). I do that once a year, during winter maintenance.

  8. Had mine years and never done it as I don't do many miles.

But I've had them on cars and it's many many miles before you have to. I should however, consider doing it soon I think
