They are all better off than they make out. Hizzy died in his own helicopter, but claimed poverty and low pay during his career...
yes but they're using British riders to do it and thus giving them more exposure. I don't care if a super villain heading up BT has his own agenda to take over the world, as long as our riders start getting promoted on British soil (as they should be) then it can only bring good things. our boys (talking as a Brit) aren't getting enough support from the British Motogp fan base , let alone from British companies. maybe if they start getting it theyll become the 'marketable type' riders that seem to get the better chances on the grids
thing with BT is its only screened in the UK - as BT only hold sole UK rights. so the argument for exposure is surely only valid for exposure in the UK. for global exposure you wont find the the spanish or italians subscribing to or watching BT sport surely. I dont think your BT argument is valid in that way - I see it purely as a commercial proposition with their own profitable interests at heart. I suppose in one way they are restricting exposure to the masses through effectively shutting down freeview exposure unless you pay either way it was televised its just now its seen by a niche market on the smallest unestablished subscription channel whose audience size by simple maths cannot exceed that size of what has gone before
MotoGP is a minority sport in the UK and isn't the reason that the masses will switch provider. BT are positioning themselves commercially to take a huge slice of Sky's business, by being super competative pricewise. I am switching next week to BT. My monthly bill for phone, broadband & TV will go from an average of £83 per month with Sky to £46 with BT for (allegedly) the same telephone service and TV channels (plus BT Sport) and fibre optic broadband with unlimited download. The fact that I will get MotoGP is a bonus. But the driver for me to change was the monthly cost.
And my last change was from BT to sky, for exactly the same reason. I was paying about £45 a month to BT for phone and fibre broad band only. As a new sky customer, I got all that, plus Sky HD +, and a top up to the Standard TV package, all for £33 per month. Guess in the 2nd year the monthly cost will increase, as all my new customer deals end. That will be my time to move to BT or Virgin. Will be interesting if your monthly fee's increase in 12 months to £80 ish. I think that all of the providers basically charge the same, once all the "new customer" deals have ended.
lets face it, motogp just isnt a popular here as it is in Spain, Italy etc.. I certainly think that it would be if it was plugged more on terrestrial telly, and i think the BBC coverage has certainly helped. The general media disregarding motorcycle racing (as it always has) is a disgrace. When Foggy was winning in WSBK he wasnt even making it onto the back pages of the national rags..instead theyre talking about some pleb with an ingrown toenail and worrying if he's gonna fit enough to play against Burton Albion..bloody disgrace.
To be fair Foggy was in superbikes; that's a bit like expecting the winner of the world touring car championship to be idolised by millions. It ain't gonna happen. I'm pissed off that Redding isn't getting some recognition though - multiple GP winner and championship leader, and most bikers have never heard of him, never mind the great unwashed.
