Ss Refuses To Start

  1. Hi all

Reaching out for some assistance please!

I've just reassembled a 900ss which refuses to start

    Here are the details

Fuel is getting through - Spark plugs are wet
    Spark plugs are sparking
Battery is strong and fully charged
    Engine turns over happily

So far, the only "action" has been one or two incredible neighbourhood-startling bangs from the exhaust but no indication that it's actually trying to fire up.

I've even tried swapping to another set of Mikuni's, and also the plugs, coils and igniters from another spare bike (all known to be working) but getting the same results.

Any ideas what to try next?

  2. Bit cold for an Italian bike , it'll be on strike until may next year.......lol

  7. Check the valve timing is right, if it’s had new belts.

  9. Same here, the only time I’ve had loud bangs and no start was when I got the HT cables plugged the wrong way…

  10. Thanks for all the replies

I've started with the easy one - HT leads

As per the following, the left hand coil (as you look towards the front of the bike) is connected the the horizontal cylinder. So unless there is a misunderstanding here, the HT leads are connected in the correct manner.

  11. The HT lead may be connected correctly but what about the coil trigger wires?

  12. Yep, that’s a good one too.

  13. And double check the polarity, if the contacts have been swapped during work.
