Hello everybody, I would be getting my new panigale V4S next week. I am based in London and would be collecting in person. I am intending to take a short term insurance for a couple of weeks and then take a proper one next year March. While the bike will be lying in my garage would I need to SCORN it? Will I need to pay road tax for entire year or is there a provision for short period ?
Unless you have an established high end bike insurance history, you’re in for a shock. Especially if you live in London. Unless you live in the basement of The Bank of England, underwriters won’t touch you with a barge pole.
You will definitely need to Sorn it else I think you get a fine for it being untaxed and I’d also have some theft insurance on it too.
As has been said previously " if the bike is untaxed it must be sorn , you can have the bike insured and sorn , you must have the vehicle taxed ( with insurance) or sorn with or without insurance "
If you are collecting you will need to tax and insure it before you can legally ride it home. You’ll have to pay at least 6 months tax, but should receive a refund cheque in the post for time unused after you declare it SORN. Otherwise choose a monthly direct debit then you’ll only pay for a month. For insurance, you have a 14 day cooling off period for the policy by law, you could abuse that and insure the day before then cancel as soon as you get it garaged.
Get some quotes first so you dont get any nasty surprises. The road tax is the last of your worries at this stage. And welcome.
