This week’s MCN has a comparison test between the V4 PP and the M1000XR. Spoiler alert… Buy the Ducati.
What wasn't clear to me is have ALL of the V4S changes been applied to the 'new' Pikes Peak ? For example the rpm limited cylinder deactivation , linked braking, bigger rear disc, fog light, front collision warning, wet mode etc etc ??
This is puzzling me too. What about the suspension enhancements? Clearly the PP has suspension from a different manufacturer compared to the V4S. It seems to completely unmentioned in the promotional videos and blurb.
Yep I cant find anything either about manual ride height adjustments at certain slow speeds , the 'bump' sensors that soften the rear , and as I said the additional wet mode. I would guess that those changes will be for the Skyhook system only unless Ducati have access to Ohlins software ?
The answers to these questions for me will be the difference between a new PP or a used RS. Interesting , just been on the Ducati configurator and none of the accessories prices appear to be available , either that or my computer is goosed.
if you are interested in wet modes, collision warnings, ride hights etc - or even, dare i say it, touring - maybe the RS isn't for you. I've got the RS and don't want to tour (it goes in the back of the van to germany and france) or need those kind of refinements. just wanted a more comfy but still crazy bike to hoon around on But as I've said before, you pays your money, you makes your choice for what suits you, your riding and your wallet. And with used RS now around with full system and other bits for under £30k.........
I was actually pointing out that things weren't clear and didn't necessarily think the 'enhancements' were all good for the PP or that I want or need them. My first choice is the RS anyway as I don't really 'tour' but will go on a couple of hundred mile blast , Ullapool on the scottish west coast is only a couple of hundred miles away from me Yes the RS is now very much within my 'hitting distance' and I always had an attraction to exotica How are you enjoying yours ??
I’d need to see exactly what the new Pikes Peak has, over the previous one, before deciding if it’s worth chucking several grand at what is potentially the same bike with a new paint job. I hadn’t considered an RS, so it’s interesting those are now around the same as a new PP with full system.
There are a lot of secondhand V4s of all types currently on the market. Be even more so come next Spring when the new versions appear.
Currently 120 on autotrader, that’s a hell of a lot, shame the prices at some dealers are quite high considering the age and miles of some of them. Would love to know the part ex prices the dealers have been paying for them…
I would imagine a lot are returned PCPs where the customer has been persuaded to ‘upgrade’ yet retain a very similar monthly charge.
Hopefully 3 now . When looking at an RS you have to take a step back and look closely at what a new one costs versus a low milage one with goodies fitted and the remaining warranty. Dealers aren't exactly giving low mileage 'used' RS's away and are pretty close to RRP of a new one, sometimes over depending on the extras fitted whether you want them all or not
