He’s doing well thanks mate still taking the antibiotics for the infection but his tails back swinging and nosing around his toy box in the evenings, loves meeting other dogs on our short walks and clearly ready to start getting back to some kind of normality again. We have his final X-rays Monday week which is when we’ll find out whether the infection needs more surgery. As you can probably imagine, tense times! Decided I’m not doing there and back twice in a day too so I’ll have to sit there for four hours waiting for the results haha what a Monday that’s going to be.
It had a good wander about, not sure what my two other feline residents would have to say if they had been in. The Dog seemed not interested but he is a bit old with cataracts & we had a black puss upto late last year (rip) so he may thought she was back from the grave (under a rock in garden , it’s like Pet cemetery in there!)
Kenny just got the all clear at the specialists I’m so fucking relieved Leg breaks healed nicely They’re happy with the swelling on his infected leg but still got to finish the antibiotics (small price to pay!) Two weeks time I can start increasing his walks by 5 minutes a day every two weeks (currently on 3 x 15 mins/day) 4 more weeks til he can start using stairs etc.. 6 weeks time one last telephone check in Happy days!
cracking news, glad the end is in sight for the little guy Are we placing bets on how long he will expect to be chauffeured around for?
“Are we walking along the whole beach dad?” - my old buddy, Henry, 14 next month, last week at Perranporth Ella, 12, would happily run the whole beach at least twice!
Get a harness. It takes the weight off their feet and makes handling them much easier. Our girlie staff does the same thing. After a walk recently she started bleeding profusely from her nose and throat. It all got quite fraught to say the least… anyway, after much drama we got her stabilised with a leading veterinary hospital. £3.6k later (she’s insured fortunately). After 4 days of testing and observation they didn’t know the cause. But I had a theory. When we walk them, she gets super excited when she knows the lead is about to come off and starts to pull like fuck. No coaxing or dog whispering will stop her… I reckon she twanged some membrane or similar in her throat that caused the bleed. We’ve since used a harness and so far so good…
I went over to a slip lead after giving up on a chest harness because I realised they’re pretty much designed to make pulling as comfortable and efficient as possible. I’ve now switched to the one @bradders uses, which is basically an extra long slip lead, but rather than just putting it around the neck, you make a figure 8 with the loop and put the bottom loop over the nose. This setup means that any pulling causes their head to twist to the side and as it’s very annoying, they stop doing it (in theory, at least). It works, mostly, but is still not a perfect solution, especially on the outbound leg of the walk, as he’s just overwhelmed with excitement and enthusiasm at the prospect of sniffing the same trees and patches of grass that he has sniffed every day of his life since he was 12 weeks old. He kept clawing it off his nose for the first few days and periodically went on strike (see pic), but he’s more or less got used to it now. Glad your girl is better. That must have been really worrying.
Our pups enjoying the river at Pont du Gard. It’s like doggy paradise here! Those Romans certainly knew how to build stuff!
