I went to one several years ago that was at least five hours of waffling by two guys who took it in turns!
Back in the late 80s when my mates and me all had Capris, we thought we were proper rally drivers. My mate managed to lose it near Elvaston Castle not far from Derby and slid into a wall on a bridge and bumped half of it into the stream. As the car still ran fine we did the only sensible thing and pissed off quickly. The next morning a copper appeared at my mates house and asked if he had had an accident the night before. My mate had left the car at his Dad’s and denied everything. The copper just smiled at him and then handed him the front number plate while telling him he had a day to report the accident . Perhaps the Yoof of today knew my mate Pete.
All of the above. Quite often I find they go slightly faster in the 30/40 than in the NSL. The only thing I can put that down to is they feel safe and familiar with a built up area and are scared by the danger of the open road? Just try to get to the speed limit in a reasonable time and stay there, then nobody can get annoyed with you.

My Mrs is what my Son and I call a 40/40 driver meaning 40-30 and 40-NSL. Bloody infuriating both to be behind and driven by. It started me off now, going outside to hammer some nails into a plank of wood.
I picked up 3 speeding nicks in May/June. That'll be one awareness course, 9 points and close to £500 in awareness charge, court costs and fines.
SPAIN a few weeks ago i rented a car in Bilbao, and what a nightmare driving there is, speed cameras everywhere, 30KMH speed limits, while others whizz past, quiet stressful any way i rtecieved a notice from the rental company that i had committed an offence, god knows what as i spent the whole week driving like a snail and triple/quadruple checking signs and lights etc before doing anything, i was a ultra cautious doi i pay it?? or in 2024 are the systems and technology so well set up that its more or less like getting done in the UK??
If they’ve got your credit card details they may have you by the balls and just charge it accordingly. If you’re going back there, just pay it. I got flashed a couple of times driving past Malaga and received the good news when I got home. For the sake of a few euros it saves you the anxiety next time you’re over there hiring a car. Unless of course it’s a huge sum. In which case just give it a good ignoring and drive your own car next time.
Had notification once I returned home from a trip to Barcelona a few years ago that the car hire company had had a request for driver details for a speeding offence. They gave a location where it was alleged I'd been speeding and stated that my card had been debited for €80 as an admin charge and that I should expect notification of the offence with a fine from the Spanish authorities. Well, nothing ever came. I suspect that the 'admin' fee went to the Barcelona Europcar office party fund. After all they no doubt had tracker info on the car and knew I'd gone over the limit for a given stretch of road... either that or the case wasn't worth the authorities chasing once they learnt the driver was from the UK...

I triggered a couple of speed cameras more recently in France, but I was in my own van. Never heard a thing. * but ffs don’t be having a roadside encounter with the gendarmes. It will likely cost a pretty penny…
Just received notice from Avis in Corsica that have been caught speeding while on holiday Their charge for the letter is €42! I can expect to hear from the magistrate in a few days time with a fine, hopefully with substantial evidence Clearly I’m a very naughty boy!
its hard to understand as its in spain lingo, but always aware of dodgy rental firms, some feel more dodgy than others, ones in some countries want you to have ding looks like ive driven down a one way street or something, but the driving in the basque country was stressful, loads of the general consensus is to pay the fine as it will apparently make it harder to rent car in the future, whether thats just spain tho no idea
