Once my son had seen his new bike, the teardown started From this..... To this.... Then started rebuilding it, decided to change one side subframe at a time Will be starting a thread in the other bikes section of Bike Chat
Found 30mins while lunch cooked to remove the lightly tarnished disc bolts on the MT09 and replace with some sparkly titanium ones.
Changed front tyre on my new to me Pikes Peak 1260. Found that one of the wheel bearings is decidedly notchy/gritty. So had to postpone the rear tyre change and researched the size of the replacements. Thanks to members on here managed to nail it down to an SFK part number. Will hopefully find the required bearings and seals locally today. Should really take it back and get the selling dealer to fix this. I suppose it's a consumable and maybe not covered by their warranty but I'd only ridden the thing 70 odd miles home. However, not worth my time raising the issue, let alone going all the way back there just for this, so will sort it out myself. Then the final part of making the bike fully mine can conclude with the rear tyre replacement. At this rate I'm going to run out of opportunities to ride the thing this year...
Collected a few bits for the Monster and the V4 Pikes Peak to replace the bits that got damaged or went walkabout in Spain. A note of caution, front brake levers are supplied bare so you need to recover the mechanism that operates the brake switch and be sitting down when you hear the price ! Andy
Booked one in for a service. They're going to collect it, as I can't be arsed to sit around for two hours on a Saturday.
Nothing major, a foot peg rubber on my PP went walkabout and something left a deep scratch in the painted cover of the top box. A bar end, the front brake lever and a mirror surround on the Monster sustained minor scrapes so I replaced them too. Andy
Sorry the hear that but glad it’s nothing major, someone mentioned to me the possibility of foot peg rubbers coming out so all mine are cable tied in
Got the Gs out and did about 180 miles around the Cotswolds, went past Clarksons pub and the queue to get in was hilarious. Then I went to the village where Agatha Raisin is filmed and home again, it gave me a couple of hours away from my own head but god I’m so tired.
Finally, gave the Monster a thorough clean after our Spain/France trip. I really should do the V4 Pikes Peak but think I’ll leave that for another day. Andy
Oh god, is it still that busy there? I went past on the opening weekend, the pub and surrounding fields were packed as if there was a rock concert in town. I quite like the bloke, but there's no way I'd go to his farm or pub anytime soon. I can't understand why everyone's so infatuated with him.
Finally fitted front wheel back onto the Pikes Peak, complete with new tyre, wheel bearings and seals. The usual struggle with the callipers ensued with added caution in trying to prevent scratching those lovely Marchesini rims. And then the rear tyre replacement. My battery powered rattle gun wouldn't shift that 55mm nut so had to trail a mains lead to the garage and use the Clarke one which seemed to manage the task easily. Tyre changed and balanced using my MAX2H kit then reassemble followed by a test ride to check all OK and do a new tyre calibration. The Pikes Peak doesn't disappoint, it feels and rides so much better than my 1260s. The engine seems sweeter too.
Ridden 165 miles, mainly in the pissing rain, in Northern Ireland. We've been to Millsport Motorcycles in Ballymoney and also Joeys Bar which is literally across the road. I'm now staying in Moville which is actually in Eire. Oh and @West Cork Paul is here too.
Come disc change time, delete the 5mm caliper spacers and fit Brembo HPK 320mm discs. Good enough for my Panigale V4 and work perfectly on my V4 Pikes Peak and it greatly reduces the risk of bashing your rims. Andy
