  1. Must be engineering quality ie mitutoyo or similar

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  2. If you want engineering quality accuracy you need a micrometer and bore guages. I'd agree that vernier calipers are a great quick and easy measuring stick though.

  3. You are ace!!
I’ve got a bust one from China you can have? ;) Think it was £11. Replaced with the same but price had gone up to about £14. Does exactly the same job.:p

  4. I have a crappy eBay one aswell. It does everything I need it to, though the battery will drain itself unless I make a point of turning it off.

  6. Be careful of fakes mate. Buy from somewhere reputable. And enjoy!

  7. if you do find a Mitutoyo one, I can recommend the one with the adjustment wheel as opposed to without. It's a small thing, but the adjustment and use is much more refined.

  8. mate i saw them new for less than 30 quid had no idea fakes were a thing

  9. A mitutoyo caliper for £30 is definitely fake. If you want quality at a bugdet I can recommend Shahe. They are Chinese but excellent quality.

  10. And vernier callipers can double up as an adjustable spanner- handy! Micrometers? Hmmm, mini G-clamp I suppose :D

When I was a lad, with a vernier calliper it was all about parallex error. Oh yes, those were the days :)

The only thing I use verniers for these days is a quick check of shims when I’m doing alignments… Micrometers are boss…
