Best advice I can offer is get a set of Barkbusters. Mine have saved me more than their price in OE handguards.
If your handlebars happen to hit into a gatepost or the back end of a bus, the flimsy plastic handguards should crumple sacrificially; otherwise your steering could be deflected leading to a crash. And maybe death. They are simple to replace. Or, if you prefer, you could fit solid, inflexible barkbusters. Then, if you hit something solid ... well, you work it out.
Not sure I’d agree with that. I broke a few hand guards on van wing mirrors whilst commuting. They are horribly fragile. I fitted some curved bar ends which helped but Bark busters at the best solution. They were basically like these (but the ones I had were much more expensive!) https://shorturl.at/bk7vO
I've not broken any handguards but they are incredibly soft so I replaced mine with carbon fibre which are much more solid and also stopped a lot of micro vibrations I was experiencing. Might be worth looking into
Try these pal. These are less than half the price of Barkbusters and when I compared these in the flesh they are no different to my gen Barkbusters set.
