Silverstone 2025

Discussion in 'Trackdays & Rider Skills' started by Gav101, Oct 8, 2024.

  1. I found out recently that Silverstone is highly unlikely to be providing any bike track days for next year. Anyone else heard the same?

Is this the end of an era for Silverstone and bikes?

  2. Who did you hear this from as my contact there has no knowledge of any such decision at this stage ?

  3. And in all honesty, who cares, the DUK days are a nice social but as a circuit its bang average to ride, no one was really booking it in great numbers anyhow.

  4. Must admit I liked Silverstone to ride at.

  5. I never really gelled with riding Silverstone.

  6. One of the instructors of the Maclaren experience...also used to instruct on the bikes too.

I was just wondering if anyone had heard otherwise regarding bike days there rather than a POV of the circuit. But if we are giving POVs, I personally really enjoyed Silverstone as a circuit especially the International and GP (National sucks). Some people gel with circuits some don't. I personally hate Cadwell but hey I must be an exception.

  8. I'm the same. Hate Cadwell, Love Silverstone. Silverstone is open and fast. You have to go fast to appreciate it otherwise its just a ton of flat tarmac.

As for Silverstone, the main man was on a OMGMotoGP podcast a couple of months back and said the bikes were only dropped to find track time for filming the F1 film with Brad Pitt. However, the reason for dropping bikes over everything else was that they make the least money from bike days..... so they may take the decision to permanently replace them with something more profitable, however I would guess they would keep something like the DucatiUK days, especially with them being based there.

  9. It would he a shame if Siverstone ceased bike TDs, though it was never one of my favs. Cadders, Donnington and Brands GP. Need to do Oulton and Anglesea, the rest a bit meh imo. If Silverstone do bring it back would they use the big circuit or one of the truncated layouts?

  10. Their own press, https://www.silverstone.co.uk/track-days/bike-track-days, gives a commitment for motorcycle track days to return in 2025. I choose not to comment further as a committed cynic and known detractor of the BDRC, who appear to have only one interest, to the cost of the wider motorsport community. I also suspect, the NIMBYs moving into the explosion of high priced new builds in the area, are applying pressure to the local and county councils to shut the track down. Andy

  11. Completely agree! It feels like more a Euro circuit too and I personally much prefer fast and open in general.
I heard the same in regards to the filming which is fair enough, i mean i am sure they made far more money from the filming than they ever would from several seasons of bike days.

I am just hoping it's not an excuse to drop bike days all together.

  12. I have done my first track day this year at Cadwell and want to do a load more next year and Silverstone would be on my list if they add it back on. It is only 45mins away from me.

  13. Ducati UK track days are good as they let my bike on without a DB test

  14. Same which is another reason i love going...no 5am wake up calls and trudging up the M1 to Donny :)

I only did 1 Ducati day and really enjoyed it. Quite chilled out compared to normal days, reminded me more of a MSV road bike only.

  16. I think that must be right because the MotoGP boys always rave about it.

  17. Yeah, you'd be a solid Inters on a DUK day

  18. Silverstone is the track I gel with and always walk out of there smiling compared to other tracks. Just something about the place, the fast flowing nature of it.

I basically sat this season out, other tracks were just shake downs ready for Silverstone days for me (GP only, short circuits werent for me). Be sad if they dont let us back on, its the one I always look forward to

People say its pricey, but to me its worth it (it also works out cheaper than Brands GP when you consider thats 4 groups but thats always full)
