Seemingly Random & Ill Suited Ratings

  1. Why did people leave en masse? Before my time.

  2. why not, I'm bound to say, your guess is as good as mine, it wouldn't be the first case of a singular target would it. Only a hunch, happy to be proved wrong and the whole thing solved.

  3. Long. Lots of arguments, mainly about Brexit, which got fairly spicy. Some people were given temporary bans (maybe a few permanent bans too, I can’t remember tbh), the leavers accused the mods of favouritism towards remainers, which led to further argy bargy and in the end a lot of them left to start their own Ducati forum. There were a few brexity minded stay behinds though, including @Fairy Cringe, but he went by a different nom de guerre in those days.

  4. In that case I may have joined the wrong forum :joy:

  5. This would require the other forums to have exactly the same configuration as we have. And this runs to the release of the forum software, the same add on software at the same release and most probably hosted on the same server (type) again running the same OS & release.

And to be more specific Samsung android users. A couple of us run Google Pixel phones that don't leave random ratings.

I still reckon it summat to do with the browser and forum add on incompatibility - and Samsung phones run their own Samsung specific browser.

  6. answering the first bit, it is still odd that there doesn't seem to be anything coming up that's remotely similar, and i don't believe this Forum can be that unique in relation to the problem.

  7. With the variation in software/hardware configurations plus variations in third party libraries the software relies upon we may well be unique.

As for being a hack/virus, it is of (edit changed if to of, kin predictive) course possible, but why then limit the erroneous ratings to only some specific users.

  9. the last bit is for us* to figure out - it's there purely in "the algorythms"*** /partly there in ***/nothing to do with ***.

Also, as above - why not?

    * bored members with nothing else to do/Anoraks etc blah blah.

  10. Seems to just be random smilies and random accounts otherwise we would all be giving out smilies randomly I would have thought if it was hackers

    software bug maybe

  11. until the cause is tracked down and revealed no-one really knows and it's all just speculation, place your bets..

  12. It’s being looked in to. But I would suggest it’s hardly worth getting your knickers in a twist. It’s a motorcycle forum. No-one’s been murdered or maimed.

  13. It appears simple to me.

If I use a laptop or desktop with a mouse I don't give out any random ratings.

If I use my phone and scroll with my left thumb I don't give out any random ratings.

If I use my phone and scroll with my Right thumb but am careful about placing it in the middle of a post, nowhere near the rating emojis, I don't give out any random ratings.

If I use my phone and scroll with my Right thumb but am NOT careful about placing it nowhere near the emojis I leave random ratings and have to go back and undo them.

The sensitivity of the buttons or the dwell time needed to register a press has changed.
If users are just a tiny bit more careful, you could say considerate, the problem will go away

  18. At 9/243 posts I’d say my undergarments are considerably crease free.

  19. Hey, that's fine Chris.
Life would be really boring if we all agreed all the time, and you know we're good regardless.

I stand by it, a little bit of care and consideration for what their fingers are doing by everyone at the moment wouldn't go amiss.

  20. i agree that will help, but other stuff going on also (i believe)
