Ducati tank bag

  1. What do people think of the ducati tank bag?

I'm off abroad in a couple of weeks and wonder how good it is, are there any better options i.e. Baglux?

    Cheers

  2. I use an SW motech 'GS' bag. It is huge, but fits well, and you still have full lock on the handlebars, plus you can still see most of the clocks....won't be good if you have GPS mounted on the headstock though...works very well with the Navihalter mount.

The Ducati bag, as I recall (I was interested when it came out) is expensive, small, and doesn't fix well to the bike.... Unless they changed it.

There are other bags about, so I'd have a look first, before purchasing.

  3. I've got an SW Motech also Shaun, you get an adapter that bolts onto the filler cap and the bag locks onto that, there's a sprong-loaded pin which locks the back on and also pull the pin to remove so you can fill the tank.

Think mine is 14 litres and holds all your essentials, passport, money etc. Also comes with a strap so you can unclip and carry it with you.

  4. That's it....mine is bigger than 14 ltrs....it's meant for the GS, but fits nicely. Very simple to use, doesn't fall off. Not claimed waterproof, but it didn't leak, even in severe downpours in Germany ....that Poland trip again. Poland was sunny!

  5. DP tank bag is too small and way too expensive.....mine went straight back to the dealer

  6. Hi John

Had a look at SW Motech, doesn't look like there's a clear map pocket at the top or am I wrong, which model have you got as there seems to be quite a few? Cheers mate.

  7. Shaun - I'd be interested in what you decide to go with, I'm looking for one myself at the mo.

    Lerrus know!

  8. I bought the genuine Ducati tank bag, mainly because my old bag was too big to fit the Mutley tank. It is OK in use, but I would agree with previous posts that it is not very big, not very cleverly designed, and rather expensive. On the other hand it is shaped to fit neatly on the tank, and is quite well made. On balance I would recommend looking elsewhere.

  9. i have a few photos of the SW. the pasty is for scale purposes only!!
You can buy a clear map pocket that fits on the top. I have one. Very good bit of kit that doesnt interfere with the handlebars and is clear of the tank.

  10. +1 0n the SW Motech GS bag simples!

  11. Mine's a Famsa.Well made and a reasonable capacity. It zips on to a base which is strapped around the handlebars and under the seat. You have to un-zip it every time you fill up which is a bit of a pain.

  12. Done some more hunting - whilst I like the SW Motech ones, I've taken a liking to this one http://www.motorcycleplanet.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=1053&bc=no the Givi Tanklock T491 as it has the quick release and has a map pocket on top.

    What do you think?

Seems to get some good write-ups on ADV rider.....

  13. Well I've looked at the SW in Hein Gericke and it looks expensive but great quality. You get what you pay for. The Givi looks interesting similar idea but lot cheaper than SW. I'd like to find somewhere local with a givi in stock as I'd prefer to see how it sits. I like the easy fitting of these click on petrol cap mountings instead of a zip and straps on the tank but wonder about the long term durability of it being held on by 3 small bolts in an item not designed to be load bearing. if there's much weight in the tank bag. Does the SW bag not leave any marks on the paintwork those of you who use it?

Wolfman bag though small would work on my dirt bike so is a possibility.

Touratech do what looks like a good bag but in a light blue colour which would clash dreadfully with my nail polish.

    Famsa looks good as well.

Decisions, decissions. Anyway I've definately discounted the Ducati tank bag.

  14. No, no marks with the SW motech GS bag....even when full loaded up to its 21 ltr capacity, it is stable and doesn't touch the tank. It doesn't touch anything. Doesn't interfere with the bars either...and the clip is held on securely. It is expensive, but is quality, and despite using it regularly, it still looks like new. Can't say fairer than that really. I can't comment on the Givi, Famsa, or other bags, only that the DP bag was rubbish in comparison.

  15. Shaun I have always been impressed with Baglux but dont know how Multi tank shape will work with that system. If I dont hear from you before you go have a great holiday mate.g
