  1. Is 1ltr of oil in 2500 miles,good,bad,normal???

  2. Sounds like a lot to me

  3. I'll check.mine today,

  4. Seems very high to me but ask @Hugo Magnus as his needs regular top ups too.

  5. Unfortunately, that’s fairly normal… DVT motors, 1200 and 1260, do use a bit of oil.

  6. Thanks chaps .Do they know what cause them to use oil just interested.

  7. Not really, or nothing has been published. There is a bulletin on checking consumption, but no real background as to what causes it. 1 litre in 2500 miles is well within the “acceptable” range btw.

  8. In my experience it seems excessive. My 2013 multi which I did 20k on , never used any oil between services. My current V4 , which is obviously a different engine, also doesn't use oil. (25k miles)

  9. Seems only DVT engine

  10. I agree. There’s something about the DVT motors that saw the oil consumption rise. I’ve not come up with any reason as to why and there’s not been any real reasoning from elsewhere. Oil consumption hadn’t really been a trait for years prior, nor is it on the current non DVT motors.

  11. In my experience it's higher/more noticeable when you're riding long distance on motorways. Constant throttle for extended periods.

Your oil consumption isn't dissimilar to that of my previous 1260s. Yet to be able to compare with my 1260 Pikes Peak.

It could relate to running in procedure maybe, as some don't report any such issues. Big pistons, lots of circumference/ring area...

  12. Maybe it has something to do with the oil that’s forced into the DVT actuators to operate them? Maybe that’s ‘escaping’ somewhere? Into the cam train area and then being driven as a mist up the breather pipes into the airbox from whence it gets burnt off in the engine.

Just a wild thought on a wet Sunday evening.

  13. My xdiavel was the same. I had to keep a close eye on the oil level.

  14. I’ve come across this before, in short some do, some don’t. My 1200s doesn’t consume anything like that amount. Never come across an explanation, you’ll have to just keep topping it up.
