I've got it to work..!!! After reading up on here and Googling said subject ... There are many, many threads on this. Occam's razor prevails. My clutch was just completely fooked. New fiction plates fitted. The tangs on the old ones were T-shaped. Basket had some minor collateral but so what. Sprinkle of Pixie dust and hey presto. I could run it in a library now...then get thrown out. Anyway.. Pay money to replace goosed parts is where I am at on this one. Save a lot of time and drama. It may well be the simplest solution. Problem sorted. It's only my opinion of course and opinions vary as do other peeps situations. On another point.... I apologise for anyone who has received bonkers emogies from me. Especially nuclear or negative. They could well have been a result of my sausage fingers. If I have an opinion, I'll type it rather than post a doll. If any admin read this can you please delete anything neutral/negative posted (by me ) other than the tea and medal dolls that I probs did post. Slainte
A satisfying mod to do, glad it worked out. I did it to mine, and it made little difference, as the basket and plates are steel and it has an open cover. I LOVE the noise though, like a bag full of spanners and bit of sheet steel getting jiggled about. Great fun at the lights when you pull the clutch. Everyone comments how broken it is, then when you take off you get the roar of a 2v aircooled with loud pipes......awesome. I wouldn't get into a library with it
Sorry brother but you maybe missed the point. My all-steel setup would have woken the dead..Still worked though....sort of. Putting new friction plates in seems to have cured the problem. Silent as a monk in a monastery both engaged or not. Maybe THAT is the actual silent clutch mod...change knackered parts. Not actually been on the road yet as the battery gave up. Jump started and sounds like it didn't..clutch wise. It's blocked in the garage atm so not given proper run out yet. I'm sure there's a collosal let-down waiting in the wings They do sound great when on song tho.
You're right, if the plates start to mushroom, then the clutch just gets louder and louder. Folk sometimes think that the plates need replacing when in fact they still have plenty of meat and it's just that the tangs are worn. This doesn't bother me as I like the racket, but I understand those that do. Sounds like yours has benefitted from new plates, I'm sure that it'll be fine, are you waiting till Spring to take it out? We have salt up here in Edinburgh so mines away now till next year
It's currently on sorn but wtf. Need to try it out once I clear the drive. Fairly certain it's probably a false dawn but...even Ducati faff things up and get it right once in a while. TBC. Had a colleague working in Edinburgh last week. First time ever in Scotland. Loved it.
