Low Cost Way To Reset Desmo Service, Oil And Annual Service

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Cruiser, Oct 17, 2024.

  1. I have successfully managed to reset Desmo Service, Oil Service and Annual Service on my MTS 950S ym 2021.
I am using the following equipment:
    1) ELM 327 BlueTooth OBD interface reader
    2) Interface cable between ELM327 and the 6-pin OBD-connector on the 950S
    3) Free dowloaded MelcoDiag and free corresponding license (obtained via email).

In some docs it's stated that an ELM327 with USB-cable is necessary, but that is incorrect, BlueTooth does the job nicely!

The perhaps trickiest part was to find the correct COM-port for the ELM 327 BlueTooth communication. For some reason I have a truck load of COM-ports in my laptop...and still only 2 physical USB-ports. A little fiddling to find the correct COM-port.
Anyway, once the communication is going it's a matter of minutes to reset everything.

Here is my start, with the Desmo Service light on...and I have exceeded the service limit with 2026 kms...:
Nothing done yet, here you can see the status, Desmo Service is on:

Nothing done yet, a second info screen, counters down to 0 since I have exceeded the service limit:

Now we are getting down to business, the MelcoDiag Reset tab:

And here we have the 950S start screen again...after pressing the 3 topmost buttons...and 9 minutes later...voila, no Desmo Service light!

And here are the other Resets:

And, finally, here is the simple setup:

  2. Did you actually do the Desmo service or just reset the light?

Im curious for feedback on the state of the clearances.

  3. So far I've only reset the light and the counters.
It's getting chilly on my high latitudes and the winter is long with plenty of time to do the maintenance.
Yes, it will be interesting to find out if the clearances need adjusting. My guess is not much...

BTW, this summer i replaced the cam belts in my ST2...belts were 6 years old, and driven 20 000 kms ...belts looked like new, absolutely no sign of any wear or tear...!

  8. Brilliant!

I wonder would this work with my 2015 Multi 1200 DVT?

  9. Thanks. I'm pretty sure it would work.
    Check the MelcoDiag page https://jpdiag.akress.com/

  10. Thanks.

My bike has a 4-pin OBD connector. I wonder what type/where I could get the correct interface cable to suit?

  11. Yes, will most likely work. Compare with your connector under the seat.

  14. @Cruiser , am I being thick? (The answer to that is, probably, yes:joy::joy::joy:)

I have downloaded the melcodiag application, but can’t get what they are saying about getting the licence on their page.

From where can I get the information to fill out the bottom box on the left side of this screen?

  15. looks like you put your email into the blue box

  16. It’s a little awkward but once you connect to the bike successfully those fields get filled in. You then press a button that sends the info to the guy that makes the software (by email). You usually get an email back quite quickly with a file. You have to put this file into the same folder as the software, after that the software is unlocked.

  17. I think I may have one you can have, I’ll check tomorrow when I’m back home, if you’ve not already bought one.

  18. Thanks, Paul.

When I am sure that I can get all of the Melcodiag downloaded and working properly, I will get back to you then, along with some beer tokens for you too:upyeah:

  19. The picture on the right of the screen is an example of what a filled out application for the licence should look like.

My application info for the licence, needs to be entered into the 3 empty boxes on the left of the screen. My problem is that I don’t know where to source the information needed to fill out the bottom box of the 3 ???
