There are a lot of unnecessary journeys made in cars. So many people drive when they could easily walk. If we don’t change we will get to a point where a car becomes useless as all we will do is sit in a traffic jam. When I come back to the UK I can smell and taste the pollution in the air
You need a carby 900ss imo...and opinions vary. Lots of considerations about digital dashboards, WiFi keys, computer hook ups and...tbf...speed limits are addressed. I might have a spare one in my garage
I think this is the wrong question, the UK, like the US, has been designed around the car. Take the NL for example where it's almost polar opposite. I can easily navigate the country using public transport/cycling. I have no need for a car, yet I have it for those odd jobs and long journeys. Unfortunately, if the experience of walking/cycling/bus/train etc isn't accessible and/or comfortable, or reduce cost significantly, then why would the individual bother? And from memory, the UK prices for public transport are incredibly inflated making it almost none accessible to the average Joe on a daily basis. At this point, I very much doubt there is anything that can be done without the infrastructure undergoing a very large change. Which is so far down on the list for the government it's simply not going to happen.
Well, I’m beginning to think that maybe the replacement for my V4PP might be something a bit less powerful and smaller. We’ll see.
I loved owning my V4S but felt it was time for a change this year. Desert X is great, enough power to be fun but not so much I don't see silly speeds too often. The Triumph Scrambler 400x in my France garage is perfect for the back roads there. Perfectly surfaced, no traffic and better weather. I can push the bike hard without getting into serious trouble. Like going back to the early days of my biking and freedom and just taking side roads with no idea where they go. Sometimes it's better to take things less seriously.
The uk infrastructure isn’t sufficient to support those who work and don’t drive really. Every journey has to be well planned, even travelling a few miles across town can mean lots of walking and multiple buses. For example, for me to get work, 50 miles Stratford upon Avon, it’s a bus to the station, train to Birmingham, another train across Birmingham, then one to Stratford. Trains alone are 2 1/2hr plus I need to get there and then from the train it’s a walk to town (20 min) for the work bus that takes you once an hour to the office. Modern living means living and working locally is a luxury for many.
Around our way I always think there are a lot of kids that could just walk to work, Instead of being ferried there in massive SUV’s. The difference n the traffic in school holidays is immense
Don’t get this ‘big bikes aren’t selling’ when you think a V2 is 950 which, not many years ago, would be the big bike. Capacity has got bigger over the years and the new small bike is actually a big bike.
It’s modern parenting driven by media fear mongering and the need for parents to show off their wealth/perceived parenting skills. The days of ‘out the house at 9, be home for tea’ are gone and seem like the dark ages in comparison to today’s mollycoddled generations. In fact that would be considered child abuse by many modern parents and social workers…. So certainly can’t let little Johnny walk to school!
Do you do that journey every day? That would send me mental if i had to do that. Life is way to short to spend it sat in a car for 2-3 hours every day. When i worked in Brum i could take one train in and it was great. Sit reading a book, listen to music/radio and watch the world go by. No stress at all.
I did until the ‘Rona sent the world batshit crazy Work has always been like that for me. If I want the work and the salary I have to travel. Same as millions of others.
I spent a few years heading to London from Portsmouth and it’s tough to know what was more stressful: the traffic when I drove of the timetable roulette when I used bus, ferry, train to Waterloo. It seemed like 50% of the time I would leave Waterloo and be standing for the first hour as it was so rammed. And the other 59% the train was cancelled
Market shift to consumer expectation in alignment with ever increasingly stringent emission standards causing larger engine production with ever reducing power whilst continuing with the larger price label as after all... It's still a 'big bike'. Sneaky business practice but again, to be expected.
New bike day Loved the opinions and experience on this thread, certainly helped ease the nerves of buying “blind” ! I needn’t have worried, I absolutely love it! So agile, easily enough power and looks stunning. Being back on a Ducati feels really special
