Another Dealer Bites The Dust

  1. Driving cars has always been risky, the risks need to be weighed up by individuals with the emotional intelligence to be behind the wheel, for example… recently when I’ve been out riding I’ve been more and more conscious of electric cars, because where as you could just ‘squirt’ past almost every car other than supercars and just give a glance before pulling in, you now have to consider that electric cars can accelerate into gaps in traffic probably nearly as quick as a bike can, so it adds a new dimension.

off topic I know but I don’t understand why bike insurance isn’t WAY cheaper for 17yr olds, it offers a chance to exclude pillions, meaning if that kid crashes and kills himself he didn’t have a ‘bike’ full of innocent bystanders. And I don’t know if the statistics back up the expense if the shear low numbers of bikes is to be believed, it’s still a WAY lower stat than cars.

also what about the option for kids to use telematics on their bikes to reduce costs. Not mandatory but an option.

  2. Education over legislation. If we want to keep dealers in business (an attempt to get back on thread ;) ) we need to feed youngsters the right skills early to cope with the crazy increase in traffic. Pretty sure they don’t even do cycling efficiency in schools these days

  3. I have to agree with education and doing courses that give you the skills to get yourself out of trouble especially inexperienced drivers and it wouldn't hurt for older drivers to do the same

  4. Better still, education that gives you the skills to avoid getting into trouble in the first place.

  5. The issue with the falling road deaths is that they are attributable to a number of factors; improved medical techniques; better engineering in cars; better training and education; road layout changes; speed limit reductions; and combinations of the above.

Unfortunately the 20 is plenty zealots will claim that the improvement is only down to speed reduction and the politicians lap it up.

  6. Sorry a bit late to join the banter...

I got my bike from Nottingham last year, bucket list, to get a brand new spanker. Very sorry to hear they are in trouble and maybe even closing permanently...

Can I ask, a bit selfishly, I take it my warranty is not affected, and for service I can just use other shop, right? They should have the bike history in the system, and prices of service should be universal, isn't it?

Could I ask for recomendation of a good place to go for service? I'm based near Daventry, I know there is a shop in Coventry, and Oxford as well. Reading here, someone was not well impressed with Oxford, and PHP Coventry closed. Was there a second Ducati shop in Coventry? OR some other place to go to? A bit of a ride is fine to get there, so long they know what they are doing. Thanks

To add to the average rider age debate, happy to say I'm pulling the number down, myself at 36, riding with my mate who just turned 30. You're all welcome :upyeah:

  7. Warranty is with Ducati, not the dealer, if within the time frame, 4 years etc.
Service it anywhere, all service info can be found on the My Ducati App if you have it.
Bought my PP (year old) from Ducati Cambridge last year, they seemed very good.
I'm near Lincoln so use Chris Walker, they have been very good and always really helpful, may be a bit far.

  8. To my knowledge JHP in Coventry are still going. I hope so, they're a good dealership with a solid reputation. I've used them for service before and have been very happy with them.

And your warranty is with Ducati, any franchised dealer should honour claims.

  9. Use Cornerspeed a bit to the north. Nelly is a member on here.

  10. Ducati Coventry are still there and have been for 20 years, they are an independent family run business not part of a group..

They currently have free collection within 20 miles and 15% off servicing until the end of the year.

  12. Unlikely, he did his own research as usual and possibly would have gone through with it just because.

However moot in any case as he can’t use a Japanese licence when he returns to the UK which was his thinking.

  13. Parents picking up kids from school are a flipping nightmare….All sense appears to leave their heads.

  14. Thank you for trying to get the thread back on topic. It'll veer off course again shortly, I suspect.

  15. I’ve used Cornerspeed and found Nelly to be excellent.

Very much worth the travelling for he’s around an hour and half for me.

  16. Thanks all for the answers. Might start using JHP in Coventry then.

I originally wanted to get the bike there, but they did not respond to my email asking for a test ride. Nottingham did. And obviously happy with the bike, and such, took my money to them, as they accomodated.

  17. As above, if it’s a new or used Ducati it’s with Ducati. Cornerspeed are a Ducati service centre, official, and notts way so that would be my choice. Tbh it would be my choose and I live 90 min away!!

  18. Completely right and 100% agree.

  19. Extreme example that is hardly worth a mention given the likelihood of it happening?

  20. Can you explain where these numbers/ costs come from? Seems fantastical to me that a 17 year old's death costs £2.000,000
